Has anyone purchased or used the new hi-res macbook pro? I am intereted in getting one and havent had a chance to stop into a local Apple store to check one out.
So, is the new res bump worth it?

My Dell laptop has a True-Life 1920x1200 LCD and I love it.... beautiful, glossy, color-rich picture. It costs like $150 to upgrade to that screen on the high-end Dell 17" models.

I've played with a new 17" with the 1920x1200 screen. I only spent about 20 minutes with the thing, but unless you're plagued with poor eyesight, this is the display you want! If you still need convincing, then stop into an Apple store and see it for yourself. I'm seriously considering an upgrade of my 15" MBP just to have the screen real estate!

Cool. I will have to check it out soon. Yeah I've heard the icons are tiny on that screen, doesnt bother me much though. I could live with super small icons for the benefit of having beautifully rich full HD.
It seems like for $100.00 its well worth the upgrade

lol, well you don't keep it at 1920! you wouldn't even be able to type and read stuff. on my dell i just switch the resolution to 1920 whenever i need it, which takes like 2 seconds.

Hehe... I'd keep mine at the full 1920x1200 if I had one. Yes, seriously, I would. I don't find my current screen pixels/icons to be too small in most situations and this new screen is only 12.5% more dense. Set it to the 1920x1200 and tweak a few icon and font sizes and away you go... Then again, that's just me. You and your eyes may tell you otherwise. I'm also not a big fan of running LCDs at non-native resolution.

After a few mintues of vertigo, the new displays make everything from websites to Word documents totally legible - thanks to Apple's superior text anti-aliasing. I'm saving up for mine!

Sweet. Im getting one for sure. Just gotta go check it out a bit first in the store. I bet those full HD movie trailers on Apples site look wonderful! And even better, RED downrezed to 1080pHD through ProRes should look spectacular.

The only other machine that come close is from alien ware witch you can get with 2 graphics cards but the screen is lower res and it maxes out at 2gigs of ram.

I had an Alienware laptop 2 years ago. Unless they've considerably improved, and become markedly cheaper, I'd steer clear of them. Plus, they won't run OSX (obviously). I replaced it with a G4 17" laptop a few months later. Should have just got the Mac in the first place.
I still have it btw. Best offer anyone? ;)
