Once the warranty is up, it doesn't matter. But does anyone know if I can purchase the extended warranty after the fact?

Can I even get the camera modified or is it only for Panavision REDs for rental?

Obviously I want the Panavision lens mount, mattebox side mounted but also use of a Panahandle - to start with. Anyone have intel in this regard?

isnt the ims mount the only way to panavise your cam?
then you would lose your upgrade path.

but i have a question:
you cant buy pana lenses, right?
so why do you want to panavise it?

Technically, I can't buy any lenses. I would obviously rent them, as I would any other lens set.

A Panavised RED.
For starters, I know a lot of people who would enjoy using it. I would get to use Panavision lenses... Better operating when hand holding matte box... Panahandle is genius...

There are other reasons... but those are the main priorities right now...

EDIT: Upgrade path to new sensor? Or in general? And what happens when there's a free upgrade to hardware? Am I still eligible?

There are other ways to Panavise the camera other than the IMS mount...

You can put a Panavision mount on a RED without removing the adjustable collar. Goes on just like the Nikon mount. I have one. As for the rest of the items you want for "Panavising", not sure about that stuff.

Shawn,

I know well that Hawaii Maui Waui is a very powerfull grass...:sifone:

Also know that the best option to "Panavise" your RED is to get IMS with Panavision, PL and more other mounts.

Why?

Warranty issue should not be a problem in that case because 5K Epic sensor is not "reachable" circle for the most of Panavision S35mm lenses so you should stay with Mysterium 4K anyway.

So again in that case no need to upgrade your RED1 to Epic.

If you need it just buy a brand new Epic (or Scarlet), so this is not part of the RED1 trade program anyway.

Also it's good to have "Panavised" RED at Hawaii and it that case your RED get in terms of rental very competitive...

Aloha.

Just be careful, even if your camera goes out of warranty doing anything that voids the warranty might also jeopardize you ability to upgrade into the EPIC line.

I don't know reds official stance on that but it might be the case.

Biggest issue I can see, warranty questions aside, is that the Red sensor is 3 perf and anamorphic needs 4 perf, so you're limiting the size of the sensor slice you're able to use. What was it Soderbergh said? 3k anamorphic? That's going to affect field of view, depth of field etc.

Now, when the Epics and Scarlets come out with the larger sensors you may be cooking.

But if I want to stick with the R1, waiting for Monstro would solve any sensor issues with Pana glass correct?

I don't want anamorphic just yet anyway, not worried about that... Aside from using their glass, there are other Panavision applications I would love to incorporate into the camera and operating it.

Anyone from RED have any info in this regard?

Believe me Sanjin, "burning" has nothing to do with this!
