I just finished the 6 JVC 1/3 " CCD ( GY-HD251E ) HDSDI uncompressed to SONY Vision Mixer in the 720 / 50P workflow recorded onto both Apple and PC uncompressed disk array systems.
The content was about 115 MB/s and 3 hours non-stop ) Thanks God !!!
I shot the US Drum artist named " Mr. Ricky Lawson ( MIchael Jackson 's drummer + James East ( Nathan East 's little brother ) and Michael Thomspon ( Unchained my heart 's solo and BayFace ....) in the 1st ever noncompressed HD content in natively in 720/50P. Sony was compressed in 1080 50i ( 35Mb/s ) on Blueray discs then I used Broadcast grade cross-converter costs USD 15,000 Black Box to cross convert 1080 50i to 720 50P and the quality was not better than uncompressed 720 / 50P ( Sony was Compressed in the Disc format and JVC HD cameras were uncompressed to DisK array .
I hope I can use RED ones 6 - 9 units for suporting O's games 2008 in Beijing / HKG for some great concert gigs with the 4K Vision Mixer so I can challenge my HD gigs soon.
We have got prepared for : 4K Cameras and projector but when will RED develop 4K Vision Mixer as well ?
I am ready for the entire 4K from capture to display in LIVE Gigs !!!

There won't be 4K mixers until there is 4K broadcast.

Disagree.
We can male 4K Live concert and this is not related to TV Broadcasting !!!
4K is a Wow Imagaing and TV Broadcast does not have WOW factors so far as I know in the world.

Live concerts alone cannot justify the investment required to develop 4K mixers.

In CHINA alone, the DVD 9 disc costs only USD 1.7 and only selling tickets in LIVE performing can make money.
I am the 2nd Generation HKG born CHINESE, and I know the LOCAL market than any outsiders.

If there's no broadcast system to broadcast the 4K signal at the event, it won't be so LIVE by the time people see it, would it?
The RED is not even aimed at the TV broadcast market. Why would they even want to make a vision switcher?

I have no idea what you are trying to say.
The market for equipment sales to broadcasters must be between 1000 to 10,000 times that of live concert video relay. What the <bleep> has that got to do with you being HKG Chinese?
Nobody is going to develop 4K mixers for live video relay only.

It's already been developed for live shows, it's called a Vista Spyder. We use it to do 4k on many widescreen shows, I ran 4K across a 60' screen in SF for a big corporate meeting a few weeks ago. Barco also makes a product called Encore that will work. It's playing back the files that's a pain, I have to cut up the files into 4 HD streams and play them out of my multi-channel HD server out through 4 HD-SDI outputs into the Spyder.

1st Question : May I ask that Why people go to LIVE event to see BIG screens ? They can watch 40-65" LCDTV at home instead.
2nd Question : May I agagin to ask that Whay we go to Cinema for a WOW factors for a Big Screen + Turbo Sound ? They can watch DVD or HD-DVD / Blue-ray at home.
Thnik Big but you can plan small.

Lighten up, vinney. Don't make me do my job and moderate. I may go back and edit the profanity, though.
lightshow beat me to it, but yes there are indeed 4K capable switchers available now. Not that I've tried it, but I'm willing to bet SDI matrix switchers, especially those with dual-link support can be used for 4K switching, provided they have enough ins and outs and just pass the signal.

Hi Jeff,
may you allow me to share my little experience that I was selling SDI matrix gig ones to HK telecom during HKG handover to China project ( now is PCCW )
256 square in one martix back in 1996 in a small HKG installation.
BTS / GVG SDI routers were great products from States in my old golden days.
Cheers,
Stewart
