In short, here's the deal...

1- We shot a feature in 4K 2:1
2- made 1/2 Res Quicktime transodes with burn in for our offline
3- Edited off the transcoded footage with burn in (in FCP)
4- Locked the film and am now ready to upres and finish in 2K

What's the next step? I assume I export an EDL and conform in scratch, however... some of my clips have been slightly renamed (the reel name, etc are all the same, just at the end of the file names it now says "merged" since I synced the audio and video into new clips in fcp.

Is it possible to point assimilate in the right direction and it will ignore the "merged" bit at the end since all the TC is the same? Or will I have to rename all the clips, essentially deleteing the "merged" text?

Thank you

Scratch conforms based on metadata - reel name, clip name, timecode, filename are all viable. If you've retained timecode metadata in your quicktimes then your conform should work using a combination of 'match tc' & 'match name'. I find this works even if there are characters appended to the filename.

cheers,
