I would like to ask RED if I can increase my deposit? I still don't know what options to choose for my camera. So I wanted to see if I could put down a general deposit and cut down on what I will owe come delivery time.

Thank you.

While I can appreciate what you're trying to do, why not leave that same cash in the bank until you need it? Or CD? Or...

That's well and fine, but not what I was asking

What would the point of that be?

Aside from the possibility that you have a trigger finger when it comes to spending.

Without getting to personal You have a wife and Kids get a nice bonus. The wife says I always wanted a sports car like the two cars she has are not enough! its always something......I'm not talking a layaway here....But I do have a budget. And not knowing if I will get the Red zoom, or go with a Nikon mount and so on . helps me get ahead of the game.

Now, I can think of one reason... If mid-December rolls around and I don't have a camera yet, I'll be looking to offload some money so I don't have to pay quite as much in taxes. But in the grand scheme of things that won't make a whole lot of difference if I reserve more RED stuff or up my deposit to 50% or so. Could be a way to save a couple grand from going to the IRS instead of a new camera purchase if the purchase happens in '08.

Anyway, I'm counting on RED to deliver mine before the end of this year so I don't have to consider such things. Please Jim, make it so. :)

AppliedVisual -- not a bad idea, because even putting money down for deposits would at least get rid of a bit of cash this year that you could write-off ;)

Another reason would be to take profit of the present good conversion rate between Europe and the USA.

Tax reasons, good point.

Hi concrete,

conversion rate is another good point ;-)

Hi,

I am not sure that paying a "Deposit" will reduce your tax liability at all. Usually the equipment has to be "in use". Assuming an invoice is issued then paying should be unimportant for tax purposes.

You should take professional advice.

Ah so, then my original statement still stands?

Luckily I have a meeting with my accountant tommorow. :umm:

I'd imagine putting it into a bond or a CD would be wiser from a financial perspective. I live in the U.S. and I'll be glad to take your money if you just want to get rid of it though. :sorcerer:

Darwin, if you need to get in touch with RED, I recommend that you contact them. These forums are more for discussion... while the RED team does read them, personal inquiries like this should be handled privately.

I recommend that you shoot Kelly an email [kelly@red.com] or just call the RED offices and chat with whatever you've got in mind.

Would you happen to be from Nigeria?

I need to get rid of some cash before the end of the year too. Not only for tax reasons, but Mass Health insurance reasons. I need to spend most of the money I make or I lose my coverage.

I was just thinking others may be in the same boat and want to increase their deposits for what ever reason. So was it an option? If you feel me asking this over the forums was inappropriate please shut down this thread with my apologies.

Wasn't inappropriate at all, I hope it didn't come across that way. I just meant that if you want a fast, accurate response to your query... talking to the company is best.
