Maybe when REDTEAM is not quite so busy, they'll come up with a much cheaper option.

Years ago, Viewsonic used to make a 22" monitor in that resolution. The price was about US$12,500.

Years ago, Viewsonic used to make a 22" monitor in that resolution. The price was about US$12,500.
It was based on the Hitachi prototype HD-TFT 16:10 panel with 3840x2400 resolution. Also sold under the IBM label as well, but ViewSonic did all the production for both their unit and the IBM badged one. Require 2 * dual-link DVI interfaces to drive it.
These monitors actually got a pretty big following in the medical and satellite imagery industries, but ultimately the panels were just too expensive to produce and the product wasn't economical to maintain. They're still out there though - I know a local warehouse that still had a few in stock a month or so back. Price as about $6K for one... I've seen them cheaper than that on ebay. Anyway, they're not good for video work or fast moving graphics, the pixel response time is very slow and the dual interfaces on the display can't keep perfect time with one another and also can't update at full 60hz when at full resolution.
Anyway, higher resolution displays are coming and we'll see some for the desktop before 2007 is over.
