Hi,

i know about a problem between the Decklink HD Extreme Capture Card and certain Versions of Red Firmware.
I need to know which Version isn't compatible to the Decklink card. I haven't any opportunity to test all Versions.
It would be great if anybody has some information for me.

Regards Steffen

I use Decklink HD Extreme everyday. And also own two Redones (since more than 1 year, acually).

No problem at all. You don't get any help decoding R3D's, but you can handle the video normally.

Been using a Decklink HD Extrem throughout all of the RED builds since January 2008.
With 3 different Macs. 2 versions of MacOS.

No problems.

The problem is that no capture is possible, or in some cases there would be an unstable picture only.
Picture disappear and come back in about 2 - 5 second intervals.
The Technical Support of Blackmagic confirm that there is a problem with certain Firmware versions.
I've tested 2 Cameras one was working and with the other i had this problem.
Unfortunately i don't know which Firmware they used.

Why would you want to capture? The camera already captures it for you:) It is not a Sony. All you need to do is copy it

@mazenhashem: can you tell me which Firmware is on your Camera?

If you are having a problem its almost certainly not related to your camera firmware version.

Some customers have reported syncing problems with the newer version of the card that uses the later 3GHz chipset.

One suggested solution to that is to insert an HD-SDI re-clocking device between the camera and the Decklink.

But i think the card isn't the problem. I've tested two Cameras one worked and one didn't.
I used the same Decklink card but differtent Cameras. I think i used the Red One Build 17.

You tested multiple ports on the bad RED? What playback mode was it in? Was the playback mode different? Were the cameras sending menus or not?

Recording a RED from the HD-SDI is a pretty weird workflow for this camera since you'll never get the optimal image quality. It's really meant to be recorded to raw data files.Could actually get a clean frame with no frame lines or other information?

I can confirm the problem with Decklink HD Extreme and RED ONE compatibility.
We are using Decklinks in our dual camera video assist QTAKE HDx2 (www.qtakehd.com) and we have to re-clock the SDI output from Red Camera.
Phantom HD works like a charm.

Some tests were done and it appears the problem is on both sides. RED ONE has unstable SDI signal and Decklink is pretty sensitive to SDI instability.

AJA cards seem to be less sensitive, they work fine with any RED ONE.
