Hi

This is my first post so you will have to excuse my noob status...

I am DIT/Data Wrangler on a 6x1hr ep TV shoot here in Leeds (in the North of good ol' blighty) and the Loader on the shoot informed me today that the RED LCD 7" monitor has started flickering when the camera is turning over. Image is fine in the Viewfinder, output to the Director's monitor is also fine, playback again fine, and I understand that they have switched over both cables and monitor with the B camera and the same thing is still happening.

Has anyone out there experienced anything similar? I am thinking that this is a camera/port issue, but would welcome any suggestions...

Cheers folks

It can be a camera issue, but what Build is the camera on? Most of the LCD flicker issues have been solved in the most previous builds, I haven't had this problem since Build 15, and that was on the 5.6" LCD.

Check the build, possibly update the firmware, see if this fixes the issue. Good luck.

Also, for the future, this should go in the Camera Bugs sub-forum or Accessories. Don't worry about the noob status, you'll get the hang of it. If you spend a lot of time on RED shoots, this forum can become one of your best tools.

Hi Anthony,

I can't tell from your post whether you have isolated it as happening with one specific LCD regardless of which camera and cable you connect with, or one camera regardless which cable and LCD you use.

However it definitely sounds like a hardware issue - either LCD or camera/port as you say.

There used to be a 'tearing' of the image on the LCD screens about a 1/3 of the way up the picture. Very similar to that which you can still these days sometimes on playback in RedCine. Does it resemble this? This was a firmware bug that was fixed. I would be surprised.

If not I would try and isolate it to one bit of hardware, and then get the camera house to exchange it.

You can always try reinstalling the firmware too.

Sorry I can't be more useful. I haven't heard of anything like this for a while now.

Cheers,
