I just won a contest that another well known electronics giant held. It got me thinking that a perfect promotional piece for publicity and just pure fun would be to have a contest in which Red Users could make a "last" film or video of either the reason why they are the biggest Red fan or even a full out movie short (just a couple ideas) with the camera or cameras that the red will be replacing. It creates buzz, hype and think of all the fun videos you guys would get to watch related to the very product you've been slaving over for the last couple years. I can't think of a better way to introduce the Red to the world than to award the winner with what else other than....drum roll....his or her very own Red one!!! C'mon Jim! I know you read these posts so think about it. If you haven't started up a red promotional dept. yet than start one! Contests like this create great interest in your products and revenue follows and would make the red team feel good about the product they've created. I know it would work! Of course you can ignore my ass if you already have some stuff lined up like this. You are after all the billionaire and I'm just the wannabe....for now:red_bandana:

I'm pretty sure Jarred has already confirmed there will be RedFests in the same vein as those over at DVXuser. If the latest shipping schedule is met then I don't see why something can't be put together early 2008 maybe for compeletion in around March or April - Ready for NAB perhaps? Infact renting out a screen to showcase the best at NAB would be very cool indeed.

True. Jarred did hint at the inevitability of Red Festivals in some form but I was just thinking in terms of a simple "win a Red One" contest which all of you know would create so much buzz over this forum and other forums such as DVXUser that everyone would enter. First prize- Red One Super pack (includes body, prime lense set, basically all the bells and whistles) Second prize- Red One camera body only, Third prize- prime lense set...you guys get my point. I just thought it would be exciting, fun and a great way to get the guys bordering on getting a Red to just go for it.

Here we go again....
I seriously doubt that RED will put up a RED One as a contest prize. A lot of res holders would be a bit disappointed if they have to take a step backward in line so some contest winner could have a camera.
I'm all for a contest -- the sticker contest was a lot of fun. But let's be realistic and not ask the prize to be a $35K value bundle. This isn't the Coca Cola company where the $1M grand prize along with most other prizes are marketing write-offs and easily recovered within a day or two of sales. Not to mention all the people who go online and enter all their personal info into the database so they can check that code under their bottlecap. ...Personal info which then is also re-sold for profit.
But yeah, let's have a contest! I want to win a RED power pack and a T-Shirt to go along with my camera or something like that.
To my knowledge, no one has canceled their reservation yet. But if someone does, a killer contest would be to try and win that reservation spot. That might cause too many problems though...

Personally a prize doesn't bother me in the slightest. These kind of events are great community entertainment, give the shooters experience and are often great fun to be involved in, and from time to time an idea might evolve from these shorts that leads to interest in making it into a feature - a far greater prize in my book. Do it for the enjoyment first and foremost.

this isn't the first time that somebody has suggested this...frankly, i think any contests that they run will be a favor done to us, not the other way around. once this camera hits the ground running, it will no doubt sell itself on its own merits, without any contests whatsoever. anything they set up will be done for fun and out of generosity, no doubt....
when canon did its national tour with the XL H1, they gave away a free camera in each town. i went to the presentation with both fingers crossed, but in my city, it went to some idiot producer who is now selling it on the grounds that it is too much camera for her to operate. why, oh why, God??????

I'll take Red's generosity or "favors" anytime. A contest would be great and I'm sticking to that. $1M Coca Cola prize? C'mon Jeff, I'm not asking that at all. Just a simple contest, hell even a trip out to meet the Red team and Jim would be enough for me. It's not just the technology behind the camera that's intriguing to me but the story behind how it's getting made and by whom that is exciting to me. Maybe I'm the only one?

I know you weren't asking for the $1M Coke prize. It was just an extreme comparison, I guess. I was just saying that I highly doubt RED would put up a camera (at least at this point) as a contest prize. But like I said, I'm all for a contest too... Even if the winner only gets a congrats and a virtual cookie. :)

this idea is no big deal to me as long as I win.. If I dont win, then I have a problem with the whole contest idea.
