red band in RED footage??? What is this?

This has been happening quite a bit in my footage. I believe it happens only when the sun hits the camera. We are shooting in hawaii with temperatures around 80 degrees, so it is not so hot. Today it happened right after unpacking camera, which means that the camera was cool. Other times it happened after 45 minutes of recording.

Any ideas on what this is?

We are also experinecing all sorts of freeze-ups, black outs etc. not always related to sun exposure.
Built 17, camera S/N around 5000

never seen that before but try going to build 18 - it's a lot more stable.

it looks like malfunction of a CMOS sensor to me (?)
