Fully Feature Enabled software? firmware? features?

A little search of the forum says that software and firmware upgrades will be free for the life of the camera.

The cameras will be delivered not fully featured. Does this mean only lacking firmware and software to be completely featured?

There is a schedule for upgrades coming according to Jim's latest scheduling post. What number of cameras will now be shipped prior to full features being enabled?

What features on the early cameras will not be enabled?

(I did quite a bit of searching but couldn't find Red team answers to these, maybe I missed somthing?)

From what I remember, Redcode RAW will be enabled but Redcode RGB will not. (Likely because it makes so much sense to shoot Redcode RAW and downconvert to 1080p; shooting 1080p Redcode RGB in camera has similar data rates but limits your options and ultimate quality.)

When they shot the peter jackson footage, minimal features were enabled... record stop. Audio probably wasn't enabled/working/implemented, ditto for magic focus, exposure aids, etc.

2- I would assume that everything can change. Right now they haven't nailed down their schedule, so I would assume that it is hard to say which cameras will be shipped with all features enabled. Though I am guessing it is likely that Redcode RGB will be one of the last features to get implemented.



Don't use REDCODE RGB... it will be the last thing we enable (it sucks). Shoot REDCODE RAW (it ROCKS).

BTW, REDCODE RAW is native in FCP 6.

It will be so cool that the RED is just a shell to house all the
great things still yet to be invented. A new chip comes out
and you can upgrade without buying a whole new camera.

Audio#ch? time code? outputs to VF/LCD both? HDSDI Outputs? Acc. such as Canon/NIkon adapters? Harddrives mags and solid state mags? cards? We really don't know how disabled less than full features means.

Sorry Jim If I wasn't more clear. My concern is what features will come, initially with the first cameras and finally with the cameras in regular production, I understood your statement above to be about when these features would be released.

Here I'm thinking about the many features like time code/RGB/multi channel audio/ability to see focus/audio/etc in VF/ various outputs and inputs/ ability to program "looks" that will play in video village etc...
