I am correct in assuming that the cooke i technology (announced just before NAB) is ONLY in the RED PRIMES, NOT the 18-50 zoom?

Excuse my ignorance, but what does that mean? What's the advantage of that?

I thought the 18-50 shown at NAB had the /i stamp on it? I didn't make it to see with my own eyes, but I could swear I read and/or heard more than one report of that. Or am I just imagining things?

/i is Cooke's metadata system so that the lens can communicate information back to the camera. It's useful because the camera can mark this data with appropriate timecode or group it however it sees fit with what it records. But it gives the user settings like focal distance, aperture, etc.. Very handy for matching up FX in post or duplicating shots later...

Oh wow, that is awesome, that's very useful. I remember reading about that process for the Star Wars prequels in the making of books, logging all that info manually I think so it could be used later.

The 18-50 definitely had contacts on it [as well as a /i engraving] at NAB - I saw them myself. As for the other lenses... that's for the RED folks to answer.

Jeff this is what I remember as well. If I am not mistaken didn't Mike Curtis have a close-up shot(s) of some electronic contacts on the new compact red zoom (small metallic dots-3? and if I am not mistaken the I/lens logo from cooke- I saw it as well Jeff) from the NAB show (to go along with adamls' post above)?

Edit* Brook is quick, my dial up is killing me... Congrats on graduation Brook, will you be freelancing now? Jeff, I am glad to see you as a mod...

cheers...
