There is almost every thing you need to get started on the RED site. With the exception of ....

1) A RED Tripod head.

2) A RED Matte Box

3) A RED Follow foucus system

Other then that....It's one stop shoppin'. I would like to get more info on the accessories then the RED site gives you. I'm really lookin' forward to the testing of not only the camera, but would like to see feedback on the accessories as well. Like " I bought the EVF and found I use the LCD most of the time, and did not think it would work as well as it did." Or "Skip the Basic production kit and go with the premum kit! and this is why....." I know different needs for different people. I must say I have no clue what to buy far as accessories! Feel free to jump in for general discussion on accessories!

Darwin, totally agree. Very good points.

That has been an issue a lot, the site isn't clear at all about what you might need.

I sure do wish RED would make those three items you listed, btw ;) Then it really would be like one-top shopping.

Red will have the motorized follow focus system and it will have the ability to convert to a manual ff. So it's just the mattebox and tripod head. Though the FF stemmed from work Curt was doing (I think I'm right in saying this) so perhaps Red will bring him onboard for the matte box he's been working on.

Red will have the motorized follow focus system

where does it say that officially?

Pretty sure it was on display at NAB and it has been discussed that it will work with the RedGrip, at NAB it was touted as RedMotor but no official line was ever released about it.

The only official release to my knowledge is on http://www.red.com/pricelist.shtml where right at the bottom it is listed with a TBD pricelist.

Perhaps I'm mistaken... hope not though! :)

Addition: It would work with the RedSuperGrip, since the RedGrip refers to the standard grips available.

I think Curt (VFS) will have his own remote (repeatable) follow focus system. I found a pic of the remote (Impero) on the View Factor Studios website. There is nothing about the motors though. I plan on using this setup with my Mirus MoCo head.

Download the pdf at the bottom of the page where it says "View our newest brochure."

I also have a render of the VFS two-motor follow focus system on a RED ONE on my website.

Agree with all parts 'cept the head, as there are already plenty good competition there.

I agree strongly on this ability to try the accessories point. I don't think its going to happen with the working camera, but maybe a mockup body would be useful.

I disagree about the tripod head. At least for now they have to stop somewhere.

I think the solution for me will be to buy the minimum gear that I can from RED, while at the same time buying an insurance policy that makes it easy for me to compliment my kit with compatible Arri stuff. Then once I've had a chance to look at how the market regards RED accessories and RED lenses more closely I might invest further in RED gear.

Can anyone who may of seen or handled the cage at NAB tell me what kind of metal or alloy the cage is made of is it aluminum, titanium or what? Also what is the approximate weight?

I don't want to try and guess the weight in a number value, but perhaps this is will help ......

I did see and handle the cage at NAB. I don't remember what they said it was made of (I think it was solid aluminum), but I can tell you that it was a beta ... and Matt made it very clear that the production model would be Much lighter.

Yes, the beta cage at NAB was heavy and Large, I believe that's why they redesigned it.

I just saw the current evolution of the cage at Cine Gear (mounted on the camera), and it was a whole new ball game. Much less bulky looking and I have to assume much lighter as a result. Yes! Go Team Red.

I'm not sure if we are going to see the NAB version again? I could be wrong, but I think that Team Red has moved on.
