Does any one know where I can get a Leica zoom lens rehoused, and how pricey this might be? I have a Leica Vario 28-90mm zoom, that I would like to have converted to a cine style lens with a PL mount.
Heres a link to the lens

I guess a better question is can RED make a Leica mount for the new bodies?

It would be extremely expensive to re-house this lens. A better option would probably be to just have it converted to PL and have gears added. This alone will probably cost more than twice the cost of the lens though. Try Paul Duclos at Duclosoptics.com

Your probably looking at a couple grand at least, to get it rehoused. in my opinion, while I love Leica glass, there are many other options of lenses to look at that are faster and not a hassle to have to rehouse in order for it to meet your functional requirements.

Could you post pics of your rig and the result with Leica R glasses.Do they breath and what is their angle of rotation. On the site, pics are too small to have a good idee of the mount and focus gear.Do you have a price and description of the gears?

Very interesting.Thanks.
Is it adaptable to all leica R lenses, can the gear move on the axis, are marks hidden on small lenses?

The gear can move on the axis, so you don't hide the marks. I use all ages and versions of Leica R - all work great. Only the 16mm (canon design) is mechanically not as good. So maybe you would consider trying to get one of those great 15mm 2.8!

The price of the 15mm 2,8 is great too!
What is the diameter of the front of the gears to adapt to a mattebox?
They are so long to focus by hand too?

We should not forget that Panavision Primo lenses are based on Leica lens and glass design.
One of my favorite is standard lens Leica Summicron R 50mm f/1.4.

yeah, I know:crying:
The diameter is 100mm. Yes, it's long, so you have a more "pro" grip on them for focusing. Also the idea was, that all have the same gear diameter so that the focus motors are at the same position when using motors.

Of course there is a bit of breathing with Leica Summicron R 50mm f/1.4 because it's an old (vintage) lens...

But with newer Leica lenses like a Noctilux M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH there is almost no any breathing.

Just a few thousand to rehouse? Where?
Focus Optics is charging around $8500 to $9000 to rehouse, to his specifications,
the new Nikon 16mm-24mm zoom

I think that soon is coming up a TIME for the company maybe that would be called "Panavision 2" or something like this, so that could offer REHOUSED, for rent or even for sell, all those extraordinary still lenses to the future market of RED EPIC X, Monstro or even Sony F35, Arri D21++, Genesis 2, Phantom 617,... upcoming the next generation of digital cameras...

Thanks for the advice everyone, and thank you Sanjin for uploading that footage. I wish Leica would follow in the foot steps of zeiss and release some Cine lenses :). I am a huge fan of the leica look.
