Hello,
I just tested the new RED workflow with Smoke 2010 today in my resseller office. I was suprised by the wiretap thing at the beginning, but the way to go is a very good addition for autodesk stations. There's a lot of parameters control for debayering on stonefs import, with real-time preview. With one or two cheap linux stations, the debayering could be very short.
My question now is what's the problem with non real-time debayering on autodesk systems ?. When working on a movie, documentary or whatever, using quicktime proxies is the way to go on all edting systems.
From what I tested today, i can conform a 1 hour movie in 3 or 4 hours with backburner, and clip are updated real-time in the smoke.
It means we can start working 10 minutes after the beginning of the import. And it's going to be quicker in a few month from what I understood (SDK problem with quad core). For color grading, from what I saw today, we can do a fantastic job with the imported media. So I'm really happy.
I decided to install smoke 2010 next week on the station and stay autodesk at all. Thanks to the the Autodesk developpement team for the good support.
