Is there a way to select a white point in the image and have an automatic white balance? It would be phenomenal if this could be done in the RAW level...

REDAlert! Does this - drag the reticule over the image, leave it on a spot of white, and press the button. REDCine has a wb picker also.

I didn't know that about the RED apps. Does anyone know how to do that in Apple Color?

Sorry about Color... It doesn't support that functionality.

So Graeme, would I be able to open the clip in RedAlert or RedAlert-X and set the WB,then go back into Vegas to find it with the new value?

uhh... ok... Do you know the answer to the post above your last? I would really appreciate it if someone could answer that. I don't have the computer with me to test it with myself.

Ok, here is my workflow. First, make sure you have a GOOD chip chart in the first few seconds of your clip, it makes a ton of difference. I'd choose a standard digital still photo gray card, QP card, DSC Labs chip chart, and I do not chose the white chip, I choose the gray, as I've done for the last decade in still photography raw files. Once you put the gray square (in RED Alert) over the gray, click the WB button, the clip with be neutralized (no color cast), your RGB values should be very similar. Next you can enhance the color, throw a curve if you like, and save the look. Next you can apply that look to other clips under the exact same lighting conditions. For every lighting change, I suggest you have a gray reference for that change. To be on the safe side, do a gray reference in each take, your editor will love you.
One last thing, update the QT proxies to reflect this new info, and you can work with beautiful QT color corrected files on the fly.
Here is are two types of reference cards, and oh by the way, don't get them dirty, or touch the surface of the cards as the build up of fingerprints, oils from your hands, oils from the snack you just ate will influence the outcome of your gray balance.

Graeme, itīs better use a white card and RA picker...
