Does look promising. Although, I'm not sure what to think of the obvious HAL-9000 rip off.

I don't wanna touch that one....still hangin' by a rope on the last thread....:)

Sam Rockwell is a fantastic actor....so I'm looking forward to this one.

From what I've read, that robot is supposed to be the anti-HAL. He's voiced by Kevin Spacey and I think the robot stays very compassionate and caring throughout the whole movie. He's Rockwell's only companion.

I could be wrong of course :-)

I thought the same thing... every time the camera had a shot of the smiley-face I expected that this was about ready to become an airplane-esque movie.

my guess is that in the full context of the movie this "face" becomes endearing. or so I hope.

I see a lot of Solaris in this movie.. mixed with some space odyssey. I didn't really like Solaris, but I thought the idea was great. Maybe this will be a version that I do like.

Whether or not the robot is good or evil, I just don't get the soothing demeanor to the voice, much like HAL. The box-like design with single recessed camera reticle, etc.. It's like they took HAL, put him on casters and stuck an LCD screen on the front to show his "emotions". ...Didn't realize Kevin Spacey did the voice. That's one way to add some star power to your film. :)

Anyway, this is only an impression given by the trailer. Aside from the HAL clone, the trailer looked f'n awesome. I hope the film lives up to it!

looks like a great role for an actor in a film...

Looks interesting... like the idea of a compassionate "hal" as stated... he's going to be alone for 3 years, they want him to have something resembling a companion so he doesn't go off his rocker... Perhaps in context it will play much more appropriately...

Hmm, 3 yrs alone and isolated with Kevin Spacey?

I would've went with a fembot.

Jus playin. :D

I agree, and add that, within reason, any companion is better than no companion. Plus Sam Rockwell is awesome.

You'd think that at the time of lunar population AI would look "a bit" more sophisticated...the story looks interesting, though.
