So what is "Summer/Fall 09"? Does this mean we are on target for September?

Since NAB had no official news on this, and we are getting to within months of that, it'd sure be helpful to have an update on the matter.

Are you an optimist, Shawn?

Not in regards to Red ship dates, I just get pissed on here every time I say when I really think it'll happen.

Well Autumn Solstice is Sept 21... with summers solstice being June 21
if you divide the hypotenuse of the square root of the length of Jim's favorite cigar suspended in ectoplasm, then simply add one full moon cycle to the result and you get a precise ship date of Sept 4th, 2009

I'm falling into that category of "Take your time, get it right, and when it's ready to ship let us know". I feel like the process is going to be a lot more streamlined this time around now that RED has a full product cycle under their belt. I have a RED I can shoot on today (still learning something new everyday) and when the time comes to have another option to look at, then cool. Now others may be in a position where they need more than what the RED ONE can offer and I can see how that could cause some anxiety. I'm just not in that situation right now. There are some improvements I would love to have for sure, but I feel I should still be able to get good results with what I have.

Anyway, that's not to ambush your request, that's just to let you hear another perspective. I have really high hopes for Epic, so I just want to see it go through the proper development chain and not be forced to market.

That's my take on things.

I agree with you completely. Personally, I would love for it to be delayed until 2010. But I would at least like to be more aware, we're a lot more in the dark this go around then last time

Yeah me too so I have a chance to gather up some of the money for the upgrade. :)

My guess as to why this round may seem a little less transparent is that RED has admittedly learned a lot through the development of RED One. They got a lot of feedback from the user base and made a lot of discoveries internally. I think they will continue to look for feedback and will continue to make discoveries but I think this time it might be a little different. I am expecting there will be a different approach to delivery schedules and such. If a major discovery is made or a major problem develops, I'm sure we'll hear about it. But otherwise, if delivery dates are mentioned I'm assuming they are realistic. They might not be exact, but realistic.

I have been pretty impressed with the evolution RED has made over the past year and a half. You don't need to look any further than the RED Primes. It seems they have delivered beyond expectation in terms of build quality, optics, and price. That shows me a company that has worked out a lot of the kinks and is starting to go to that next level. I expect we'll see the same kind of thing with Epic and Scarlet. Improved build quality, functionality, and stability.

We are going to take whatever time is necessary to make each product better than the last.

Good! Glad to hear!

Now if we could just get updates as things go such as "September isn't happening, we're tracking for late October..."

No need of rushing to get Epic X, also economy,...

Would be the best when the sensor X is ready offer it to the customers for upgrade and with that huge base

of "beta testers" try to "tweak' all issues till then it would be completely ready for a big Epic X launch...

Just a thought... my 2 cents...

Personally I would like the oppisite. I would prefer all talk of release dates stop until the camera is tested, in the box and 1 or 2 weeks from shipping.

There's a lot of levels here. Does this suggest that Red is training us to sit quietly with a juicy morsel within reach? Against all instinct?

Haha, great picture, Tom. When I first saw it, I read it that Shawn was the bone--as in it's quietly waiting for the right moment to consume him.

It actually works on many levels--both ways!

Um, you mean it "works" that Red is trying very hard not to eat me?

Haha-yeah. No--as I said, when I first read it--I thought the arrows pointed to the opposite--and it was still funny to me.

If tomorrow they said "Epic X is shipping" instead of saying "are you sure it is ready?" most of us who are waiting for it would say "how much more for overnight?" It's Red that really needs the patience to get it right as I'm sure they are dying to get it into our hands.

It's not until we would get it and open it up and find that it is just a block of aluminum that we would say ah... guys???

Lol, in all fairness to Shawn, I probably should have said "Redusers" with the arrow ----> pointing to the dog. I'm sure that's how many of us feel here.

Jarred has answered this question somewhere stating
that they are still targeting the end of summer...

he said this like 3 weeks ago...

so I'm assuming we'll have more updates in a
couple of months...
