Evin,

What is your suggestion for a basic lightweight and affordable kit that would work with Nikon lenses ?

thanks

Redrock's FF and mattebox are awesome and the price is unbeatable. The mattebox isn't out yet, but will be soon.

I agree, Phillip. Redrock's products are an amazing value. If you're using Cooke or Zeiss cine lenses, then by all means splurge on an Arri or Chroziel mattebox & follow focus. But for indie filmmaking where you are the director, DP, writer and producer... Redrock all the way.

RR also has a remote controlled follow focus coming soon priced around $500. Amazing!

Are you sure it will work with Nokon 17-35 ?

Actually, the follow focus will suck with the 17-35 because of lack of hard stops. RedRock have said they are going to add them though.

Check the 17-35 thread for reference ;)

Affordable is a relative term, Redrock makes very neat stuff, especially for the money but I personally think that Chrosziel makes the "Affordable" mattebox that will last. I personally have only played with a prototype of the Redrock at Cinegear, but I personally own a Chrosziel 411-50, that's a 4x4 dual stage (One rotating) mattebox than can cover most lenses HD and prime 35mm lenses. It's about $1400 with the rod adapter, that might not seem cheap but compared to an Arri mattebox it is certainly affordable. As far as a follow focus is concerned I'm still investigating and trying to decide is a Wileytech is really necessary or if I can come up with something that really is affordable.

Hi Evin,

I have the Chrosziel- but what I can not figure out is how to attach it to my Nikor 35mm lens- Is there a certain size step ring I should get? If so- which one?
Thanks

Very nice stuff, Sanjin! I hadn't thought about the Hasselblad via EOS method before...

What's your answer for hard stops / getting consistent marks with the 17-35 and RR MB? I know marks aren't so critical with a wide, but still I was wondering if you had a solution...

Cheers

We all need a learning curve with any (also RR) FF and Nikkor 17-35 mm f/2.8.
