So I was booting up one of out REDs for a rental and when I plugged in the viewfinder I just get a black screen that says

"EVF not selected
v.71128B"

anyone know what I can do?

thank you

Make sure it is plugged in to the correct port on the body, and that the connector is fully seated in both the camera and the EVF. Also make sure the caps on the right-angle ends are all the way tight.

Try that first, and then try rebooting with the EVF unplugged and plug it in once it has finished booting.

Tried it.... Thank you but that did not work. Any other suggestions?

I've had the same problem twice. The first time required sending the EVF back to RED and the second time, a new battery plate was the cause. Swapped the battery plate and the EVF was fine.

In my RED ONE this message always shows up for a couple of seconds when turning on, but the EVF always come to life, so I've come to expect this message when booting up the camera... must say sometimes it scares the hell out of me 'till I remember this. Would be nice to know if this is usual or something that will be fixed in later builds.
Thanks for your attention.

hehe it is because "evf refresh" is to to "sync" instead of "relative"... or the other way around:) - its a bug described in the manual - build 17... it will also cause your playback on the evf to turn black for a few seconds - also going from expanded focus...
