I believe it's something like 6 per person. They do have installed for example, in changing rooms in shops and hotel rooms these days (all over the world). They're just not allowed to distribute them and they're supposedly to be erased almost immediately, but one or two interesting ones slips out on the net now and then.

I heard about this incident on network radio news. She gets out of her car, takes off her shoes, lies down under the train, gets up, picks up her shoes, goes back to the car. But no body yet has told me why on earth someone would do this.

Is it a failed suicide attempt? Thrill seeking? Some kind of protest? Ritual purification?

I really don't understand. Anyone know?

I have no problem with surveilance cameras in public places. Just as long as they are sealed except under a court order or completely open to the public. One or the other.

If the government is doctoring videos to incriminate people then we've got bigger problems. :D

Which is why I would say that we should have a hash check on every video. Make the MD5 public for every camera every minute. If they try and go back to doctor a video even one pixel... no problem MD5 is changed. Evidence thrown out.

I wouldn't say that cameras should be accepted without considerations to freedom and privacy. Just that they aren't inherently subject to abuse. There are pretty simple steps which would make them 'safe' and constitutional.

Besides at this point in time I leave such an absurd data trail across the face of the earth it would be rediculously difficult to put me somewhere I wasn't. A digital alibi if you will.

Whether this is a breach of civil liberties or not? Dunno. It's certainly a breach of privacy. And definitely a waste of money. Although the alternative (in terms of crime reduction) is better street lighting, which I think most of us would like, since it means better exposure.

Frankly, Gov't's have been lying to their people forever. But now it's more believable than ever.

Haven't you guys ever been in retail store dressing rooms that have a sign that says store personnel are monitoring the room you are in? I was last week. I don't believe it's illegal.
