In terms of image manipulation, is RED intent on producing its own application to support Medium Format photography, ala Hasselblad Phocus, or will there be generic support in applications like Aperture for example?

Support in which way? Like Adobe Raw, Red Alert or a photoshop plugin?

As in native Redcode Raw (.R3D) support within Apple Aperture for example.

If red wants this stuff to be adopted by still photographers, they should throw a big net and get as many 3rd party software developers involved as possible.

Would anyone from RED like to point me in the direction of an existing threads which may well already have discussed the questions I raise here, as I have been unable to find any? Failing that, any information would be welcome.

Adobe already supports R3D for example, I think it will be no problem for stills to come directly into photoshot etc. Video is much more complex issue. But for both I think you'll be in good hands.
