We did show a couple prototype 3D rigs at Cine Gear. We showed our side by side rig for large cameras such as the Red, our Large Beamsplitter, and our subminiature beamsplitter for small cameras with C mount primes. The miniature rig is actually small enough to fit inside the AR revolution on a steadicam!
It's also important to note that the large beamsplitter rig shown at Cine Gear was actually the same rig you saw in a side by side configuration at NAB. Our rigs will convert from Beamsplitter to side by side.
Some of the features that were on our Red Rig at Cine Gear were:
-Motorized IO and Convergence
-Rolling shutters roll in the same direction
-Can swap to different size mirrors
-Designed for the Optimo 15-40 and 16-42 lenses. You can also use the 28-76 or 30-80.
-Power breakout to power both cameras, rig and lens motors via one block battery.
-Extremely rigid construction.
There will be a lot more features coming, Cine Gear was only the beginning. Rigs will be built in miniature, medium, and large. Miniature can fit two small cameras with C mount primes, medium will work great with Epic and Scarlet, and the large Rig is perfect for the Red or other large cameras.

Chris, forgive my ignorance, but is that for 3D work only or could you also get two identical frames for HDR trickery?

You could use it for HDR photography, but it would be a bit overkill.

Hi Chris,
this looks awesome - really. Good ideas, especially different sizes for different needs.
One question though - whats the size difference between an EPIC and a RED ?
In my thinking they should be about same when EPIC comes properly equipped (video out etc.) - anyway, looks like you found the right 'angle'.
Cheers, Rocco

Ok, fun stuff. So why would it be overkill?
I suspect the answer will be interesting.

Epic should be quite a bit smaller than the Red one in a brain only configuration. There would be no reason to attach all the modules for 3D. You could have them somewhere else attached by a cable.
Roberto, a 3D rig might be a little overkill for HDR photography because for HDR photography, you don't need to offset the cameras. All of the linear motion components and sophisticated electronics that drives them wouldn't help in HDR photography. You could build something simpler that holds the two cameras perfectly alinged with a few mechanical adjustments.
