Dear Sirs,

Please help me with a technical question I have.

It seems recently that I heard that you now have the ability to record audio and video at once to the Red One camera and that you no longer have to marry the audio to the video anymore.

Is this true? If so, when did this change happen?

I thought I heard this at NAB and that it was part of the latest build. But I was told Wednesday night "well unless that happened in the last 5 days, that's not true. Are you sure?"

Not having worked with any Red footage since the earliest versions (for Opencut 1) I couldn't verify what I was saying was true.

Can someone help me answer this question?

Thank you very much!

It was possible to record audio on RED for long time . Only one change that happens was camera audio board update .
You can record audio to camera , 4 channels .

I'm sorry. I don't quite understand your reply.

What I'm trying to find out is whether or not the file is the same file. And if I bring that file into an editor am I dealing with one file that has a video and four audio tracks or 2 (or 5?) files that have to be sync'd together on a timeline.

Audio and video are part of the same R3D file. No syncing required.

Thank you!

Do you know when this change happened?

What about with Final Cut Pro? Does this make a difference at all?

No difference at all. 1 file, that when placed into a FCP timeline appears as a single video track and 4 audio tracks, linked in sync. It's been this way for well over a year.
