If you have any understanding of what a huge impact the right photo of the right celebrity (http://www.foliomag.com/2008/help-lohan-spitzer-new-york-magazine-reports-strong-newsstand-sales) has on newsstand sales (and thus audited circulation figures which justify the advertising rates which are the lifeblood of any magazine) this (and the preceding Esquire cover) really is a huge milestone.

That's a hoot. I remember my first motor-drive Nikon circa 1970. Red now gives us 30+ FPS moto...
Very cool Jarred, thanks for sharing the cover.

Uh, he probably picks his frames in RED ALERT or REDCINE and exports as a TIFF image. That's what I would do... :sifone:

I ought to point out, my camera was only backup on the Agent Provocateur shoot as Greg has his own. His Focus Puller is a good friend of mine.

I'm really sorry but is it only me who found the only good thing about that AG was the girl? The rest was boring, long, juvenile and badly executed (bad acting, bad lighting, bad directing, bad everything). A poor try to be a Prada campaign?

Ditto. But the girl should not speak either.

Wow, Fred. That's way out of line. I think a comment like that has no place on this board. Even if the footage looked like total crap, which it doesn't, that's totally uncalled for.

uh..., when it's done like that it is. That's Bullsh_t. I come here to learn and see what everyone else is doing out there. Everyone on this board has a different talent and degree of accomplishment. I've seen some real turds posted in here that someone shot out in their back yard and they get ludicrous praise. This guy exerted a great effort to make something creative and gets pissed on with a comment like that. If you want to comment on someone's work, do it constructively. Ask why they made certain choices and make suggestions on how it could be done better. Give me a freakin' break!

I didnt find it to be the best Red work either.
However, i have a feeling it was a quick project..something super fast

Honest Criticism is mandatory!!! but I will agree with Tyler that it should always be kept constructive and done in a positive non derogatory manner. The Red forum and it's members are a special group of professionals and aspiring amateurs that are famous for our collaboration. All that being said, Greg Williams is no amateur and while you don't care for the piece I am sure there are plenty of us who were entertained!!!

Guys,
I think that Fred's criticism was aimed at the product not the individual. Maybe it's not the kindest critique I've heard but he is welcome to his opinion. I'm sure if any of us puts our work up for show some will like it and some won't. We are not suggesting either sensorship or obsequious dotage, so take the rough with the smooth I say.
Personally I sort of liked it for the obvious reasons and sort of didn't for pretty much the same reasons that it was squarely aimed at me. There was no challenge. The girl was kind of cute, the lighting was simple enough and it was definitely directed by a bloke. I've seen better and I've seen worse.
Good to see Red being used by photographers though, now where's my 5D Mk2.

Its beautiful. I shot our Native American Directory and newsletter. All in the RED camera. Nothing glossy like esquire. But it was cool. (for the low budget printers we have here at the tribe).

A lot of people seem to think I was to harsch and didn't deliver constructive critiscism. So here it goes.
I agree with Zakaree that it feels like a very rushed project (although I've shot many rushed projects in my life were we IMO managed). My critisism comes from that I think that someone that's supposed to be of his level should be able to perform better and Im not sure it was as rushed as we'd like to think.
Although, when you have the resources to perform (make up, models, locations, know how etc) there are very few excuses. I've seen many bad projects from still photographers simply because they see it as a still. I believe that's the case here.
I think it's to long to start with - the shots with her checking herself out are not really saying much - since I believe they don't illustrate 100% what she's actually doing - checking herself, looking at her self sexually - forming an idea.
The shots of her walking through the entrance are and I'm sorry but I do think they are, dreadful. The framings and etc even the editing of them feels off and boring (sorry).
The guy that's been casted I don't understand at all. Unless it's himself I don't understand that choice and if it is him someone should tell him to stay behind the camera.
The shot with her stilletos in the doorway is nowhere near the classical pose / framing that it should be.
The editing and framing with her tapping with the fingers at the door is IMO rhythmically bad in editing - this is partly coming from lack of shots for editing - but it comes to abrupt and doesn't really deliver the feeling it should be.
The following shots of her sexy herself around him are interesting for a second then they get boring - again I think that it could have been just as with the mirror, more thought through here - he could have considered what he wanted to say and how and then have instructed her a little more - it would have become more sexy...I think.
I liked the thoughts with sound design around the tie being tied - that was nice - her transformation to hit him could have been worked at a little and the horrible old lady in the end was again.... could have casted someone else and/ or given her a little better/ funnier line.
That's it. That's what I think

I didnt find it to be the best Red work either.
PS I'd like to ad that I was not judging it for being RED work or not - I would have thought the same thing no matter what format.
And I like to ad that it is a paid professional commercial for Agent Provocateur, isn't it? Or maybe it's a test commercial, which it seems to be, although I would still have the same opinion.

While Freds initial comment seemed a bit harsh, I suspect it comes from the utter disapointment in watching a very amatueristic piece and expecting a lot more from a stillspro like Greg Williams.
