It's been really interesting seeing the Rip Van Winkle pace of the industry try to get going in the face of what Red is doing.
The Red team is pushing the industry in lots of very positive ways.
Here is some additional evidence.
I got this via email today from Able.

Not only can you use your RED ONE to get a full price credit towards a 5K EPIC - you can also use it to get $30,000 OFF a P2 AVC-Intra HD camera with a 2/3" sensor!
Hmmmmmm .... let me mull this over ....

What's to stop people who want a 3700 from buying a RED for 17500, and trading it in for a 30000 discount?

Forget that, buy a 2/3" DVCPRO cam on the cheap and get the $30,000 discount. I'm sure there's a catch in there somewhere.... right?

So they are giving the same discount from RED trade ins as Standard Def Betacam?
Who in their right mind wouldn't just grab an old BetaCam and trade that in if they really even wanted a VariCam anymore?
The underlying message here seems that Panasonic is desperate to get these Cameras off the shelves.
No thanks.

"The underlying message here seems that Panasonic is desperate to get these Cameras off the shelves."
Probably a good deal for rental companies. I am finally getting producers calling asking about RED shoots...why? Because they are running into past clients that have produced some work with RED and when they see playback on a 52" LCD they are finally discovering what I have been talking about. Sure I have shown them some of the RED work I have produced and the other RED reels but when they finally lose a gig and lose tens of thousands of dollars they finally have to admit that their might be something to this RED.

I'm sure everybody has been crapping their pants since RED has pushed out most of the other competition over the last year. I can see there being a bit of a serge in people buying 5D2's to do some video work. But once Scarlet and Epic comes out RED is going to shut the doors on the other companies again.
At least now I feel like the competition to RED is at least trying to move forward with camera technology. Personally I wouldn't switch over to another company because none of the others offer the support that RED does.

Ok, this is most likely to change with Scarlet & Epic, but last friday we (me & my bro) prepped for a little shoot over in Hamburg. While we were doing that we saw a P2 camera in it`s box - we picked it up and played around with it. I have to admit, it felt way better on the shoulder that the Red One, which was a tough bitch to be working with on the water as it was too top-heavy and too heavy at all anyway (even with an Easyrig). But as I said, this is likely to change in short...

I feel the same way. All of that will most likely be history (if not absolutely certainly) with DSMC. It will match the feel of the shoulder mounted cameras and offer a few dozen new things in terms of ergonomics and size/weight depending how you chose to configure it. The only thing I can think of left to match is the stabilization which happens with their FF35 lenses or now with (don't quote me not 100% sure) Birger.
