Hi all I noticed someone with some DIY redrock 35mm adapters on ebay. The auction is over but he still has 4 more. I did not end up buying any becouse in the terms it says he takes 3 weeks to ship and he never answered about me having a friend come buy and pick one up. Any way here it is at your own risk. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170128097971&rd=1&rd=1

Look IMGentertainment at the price they are by far the cheapest 35mm adapters I have seen. As far as I can tell they came off cameras and were working. I thought being nice I would list them for those on a budget looking at HV20s etc. If its not something you want or are interested in then move on to the next thread and if no one else is this thread will quickly fade away.
Pat, thanks for posting this. I don't think its spam. Very interesting.. Could get one just to permanently mount on a hv20!

haha, the only problem is, that damn thing will outweigh your HV20 by ten times over! You'll have to tape a brick to the back of your HV20 for balance. :)
actually, this is quite an interesting topic, because a lot of people are going to be wanting to pimp out their HV20s with cheap quasi-DIY 35mm adapters like this. i'm not in a big rush, though, because i'm mainly shooting deep-focus, wide nature stuff right now, so DOF isn't a priority... yet.
Actually tom, if you were going hand held you would be attaching the camera strap the adaptor, not holding the camera itself.. So the camera becomes an accessory TO the adaptor! Could easily mount on a couple of angle brackets to keep the camera solidly mounted to it..

heh-heh.
BTW, I ordered that $14 DIY "steadycam" for my HV20 and the Canon wide-angle adapter, so I should be shooting some Oscar-caliber stuff soon down at the beach. :)

Since there isn't a clear cut policy on spam or posting of such links, I guess I can let it stay. You were kind enough to remind others that this is at their own risk. And you have contributed to the forum in other ways, so you're fine... I do agree with the views of some of the others though... Why bother? I would strongly caution anyone considering such a purchase. Trying to hold a budget is one thing, but being cheap to the point where skimping $250 or so to buy a no-name, home-job adapter just doesn't make sense. Or at least that's my take on it.

Thanks Jeff. But the reason I posted this one is first its the Redrock DIY http://www.redrockmicro.com/diy_guide.html. So its not an untested design. Also they had six of them on cameras and working. Also a good sign. I would have one right now if the guy would have emailed me back about coming by:) And I also agree I would just buy one if I had the money but money is to tight right now and $750 difference is a lot of money at the moment. So I thought it might be for others also.
By the way why not just have a classifieds section for posts like this? I am sure a lot of people have extra stuff they dont use they would be willing to sell.

Probably in the future Classifieds would work here, but not until the camera comes out at least. :)
I'm hoping within a decent amount of time you will be able to get an HV20 35mm rig (including a platform, mount, LCD, etc) for around a grand, minus lenses. Anything more is kind of nuts, considering the price of the HV20 itself.

Yes would be nice to get a camera for $900 and pay $2500 for all the stuff to put on it. But it will probobly be like still cameras some day. You have your lenses, flash etc etc. And just upgrade bodies every so often.

Guys
Just a quick note of caution- I had a customer send me a "Redrock DIY Unit" he purchased from eBay. I don't know if it's the same outfit, but the... "equipment" (and I use that term generously here) he sent was not even fit for a junior high production. It was built of PVC, glue was everywhere. The ground glass looks as though it was cut with scissors by hand in a circular pattern, the list goes on. You would have to go out of your way to build something this bad.
If you are going to consider a DIY adapter from eBay, please keep this in mind, and I would recommend not thinking of it as a redrock.
The customer ended up contesting the purchase via Paypal as fraud, and ended up getting 1/2 is money back after a few months.

PS - just looked at the eBay pictures - it's the same one as the item I described above - danger Will Robinson!

The DVX user group has about a thousand pages of info on DIY for these units.

Thanks for letting us know Brian. I can see why he did not want anyone to come by to look at it now.
