ikon to PL mount adapter for $490

i found these adapters...

Nikon to Arri Standard Lens Adapter - http://www.visualproducts.com/storeP...t=8&Cat2 =135

Arri bayonet to PL lens adapter - http://www.visualproducts.com/storeP...t2= 23#bigPic

basically you just clip these two adapters together and BAM! you've got yourself a nikon to PL mount adapter for just $490

you'd only need one for all your lenses as well!!!

This will work if all you are trying to shoot is macros. The flange focal distance of the Nikon F mount is 46.5, the FFD of a PL mount is 52mm, this of course mens it's impossible to focus the lens to infinity.
Nice try though.

there's always a problem isn't there.....

... the Nikon F mount is 46.5, the FFD of a PL mount is 52mm...

This solution possibly gives you the addditional 5.5 cm that is a difference between Nikon F and PL FFD and you could maybe have a focus.
Also it costs together almost like Red's Nikon F Adapter about US$500.

And a little advantage for this option is that you could easy use both lenses PL and Nikon F just with one mount installed on RED that is the PL mount on RED by default.
No need to unscrew PL mount and RED's screw Nikon F mount that all people think could be complicated.
Now you could use Nikon F lens (that has already PL mount adapter screwed on) like PL mount lens and screw it on RED. On one side is PL mount and on another side is Nikon F mount. Just put those two adapters together or
Nikon to Arri Standard/B mount Lens Adapter + Arri B-Mount to PL Lens Mount Adapter.
That's it.
I already owe Nikon to Arri Standard/B mount Lens Adapter and maybe I should try out once to add on the another Nikon F mount just for US$95.

And who knows, maybe the RED's Nikon F mount is functioning like that could be simply screwed on the exhisting PL mount(!?). It could have on one side Nikon F mount and on the another PL mount.

Wait and see.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway I am ordering the RED's Nikon F mount.

"Don't worry about your Arri Standard & B-mount lenses becoming outdated. This adapter will breathe new life into these affordable lenses. The adapter installs easily, without any tools. Just slide it over the rear mount of your B-mount lens and rotate the locking ring to lock the adapter on the lens-- it's that simple. Standard lenses require the use of the supplied snap-ring. Update your Standard & B-mount lenses to be used with today's PL mount cameras-- including the popular P+S Technik Pro35 and Mini35 film adapters."

Sanjin, 5.5mm needs to be removed not added, the Nikon mount needs to be 5.5m closer to the sensor not farther away, this is why it doesn't work.

Hi,

I always thought Arri bayonet and Arri Standard were different mounts, so I am not even sure it will work for macro.

FWIW for macro you can always use a prime lens backwards with gaffer tape.

Yeah, different locks, but they have the same flange focal distance and diameter.

Hi Paul,

I have some (I thought) Bayo to BNCR adapters with my Ultracam. They don't work with standard mounted lenses.

BNCR is a different Flange focal distance and diameter again than both standard and bayonet so yeah it wouldn't be great.

Les Bosher sells a PL - Nikon adapter for Macro work. As Evin eluded to in another thread about Nikon conversion to PL it's a bit more than sticking on a mount and collimating, hence the difference in price. Don't think there is a quick way round it. Rehousing seems the most cost effective method, at least then you get the benefits of a proper Cine style lens with correct focus throw etc.

Sorry I see what you mean Stephen. Yes the locking mechanism is different for the Bayo and standard which is why it wouldn't of course work, that's what I meant by different locks before. Just misinterpreted... my mind's in slo-mo today!

Visual products doesn't seem to carry these adapters anymore.
Do you know where else one might find such adapters.

I know they got in a new batch of the Arri bayonet to PL adapters not too long ago. I have a couple of them and they are rock solid. If they don't have them, there is another REDUSER member that sells them. You can find him here: http://www.cinematechnic.com/products/PL_Mount_Adapt_ARRIStd.html

Hmmm. Just had a thought. It may have been discussed before, so sorry if it has. But is there an adapter that would allow the use of PL lenses on a Nikon mount camera? If the Vista Vision style Nikon mount that was discussed on another thread was built and approved by RED, how well would that work? Would it be sturdy enough for production work?

No, The rear element would hit the mirror & the 'hole' is too small for most PL lenses.

Thanks. I didn't caliper any of my lenses, but I had a feeling the diameter of the rear of the PL lenses might be a problem. For every solution there is a problem.

I just ordered one from Visual Products this morning, in stock, shipping today.

It's the Arri to PL adapter I ordered, just to clarify my message....

It looks to be an option. The glass allows the nikon lens to make focuts at infinity on a PL camera...

If someone tests it I would like to know if there is any quality loss with sharpness or deffinition...

Hi,
I'm new on this forum, and I'm trying to get some info, I have a JVC gy-200u, I want to use the HZ-CA13U PL lens adaptor, but I already have a set of Zeiss F mount. What can I do to use my lens with the adaptor?

Testing the Optitek Pro Lock Nikon mount tomorrow. Getting first proto. From what I've seen so far this will blow all others away.
