What size screen are you planning on using?

That depends on your budget. I recommend the Samsung SP-A900B. It has adjustable color primaries (SMPTE C, 709 and EBU), adjustable gamma (2.2, 2.4, 2.6).

Samsung's an excellent choice for screens up to 45"h x 80"w 92"diagonal 16:9 format. Not bright enough for good screen contrast ratios beyond that. It will meet 100:1 theatrical contrast target at that size if ambient light at the screen is kept below 1/2 foot candle.

Harcharan, we are using the JVC DLA with Scratch. Need to use Cinespace to calibrate. Works well. Lim

Sounds good but what about price?
Do you know?
In the website there's no price point...

I'm not sure about price of the Samsung, but I think it is more in the $10k range. It is sold through qualified AV dealers only as a high end home projector.

I'm curious about the JVC DLS RS20 as well. We're looking at adding a projector to our grading suite.

I've heard the JVC's have pretty awful color accuracy out of the box, but does anyone have experience with calibrating this unit? Great black levels..

If you want to use a projector for accurate image reference, it must be calibrated to your system video output using a colorimeter for best results. This service is available from many AV systems integrators. The test gear costs about $15k. A setup by a qualified tech with gear typically runs about $400 as a field service call. The result is an image closely matched to SMPTE reference standards. Generally you will drop about 20% of the rated lumen output to get accurate calibration, but the picture will look significantly better in every respect.

Thanks David, I was more wondering about the JVC's color tweaking ability specifically.

Cheers :)
