Just watched The International.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It certainly follows the international/corporate crime thriller genre pretty closely but I thought it brought enough new material to the table to be worth a look. I liked the ending but I can see how some might object to it. It certainly brought a plausible level of plot twists and setbacks without being incoherent.

Excellent cinematography and directing. Makes me want to take some time off and travel around Europe again.

I agree. It was very Sydney Pollack R.I.P.

*SPOILER*

The museum shootout is simply awesome.

One of the better recent pics I've seen. The museum shootout was tremendous. I especially liked the classical action editing of that scene, as opposed to the rapid-fire "Bourne" style of editing that has plagued most recent films like "Quantum of Solace".

Yeah. The easiest review for this movie would be:

"Have you seen the interpretor? Did you like it? Well there you go." :D

This fits in with some other recent pics, like State of Play, Michael Clayton, Interpretor, etc. Good solid viewing for adults with IQs over 80.

Sorry guys to spoil a bit,
but IMO the story twists of The International are sometimes a bit trivial (how they discover the second sniper, how they turn the ex-GDR-spy, how the sniper in the museum-shootout changes sides and teams up with the cop...and could anyone at any time see a real dilemma for anyone?) - looks like they had to work on the plot/script while shooting.

But for the rest just great, especially photography and music. Michael Clayton and Interpretor are fantastic (as is Syriana), State of Play has some difficulties with the development of the characters.

But I am totally addicted to that genre and I expect more good films to come - and in the meantime I work hard on the development & financing of 2 feature docs with story-telling in this political thriller style... Keep fingers crossed for THE BRUSSELS BUSINESS next Friday & Saturday...we are pitching in a forum and could close the financing...

Best,

Fritz, you are right about some plot holes in The International. Even State of Play had some issues, as you say. But these are still better than most of the crapola put out by Hollywood. Body of Lies is similar.

Yep, that's true. And don't think that Europe does anything better. But I guess it is a good time now for serious films on serious issues.

Right now I read a phantastic book, "The last tycoons", about Lazard Freres, the NY-London-Paris investment bank. I would say it is one of the best books I have ever read, it comes across like one of the big epic novels of the early 20th century - but this is real stuff. Great stories, amazing characters, archaic drama - hopefully some-one gifted turns this into a movie. I'm just blown away.
