Oh geez... that's just stunning. That's cleaner than the 35mm scan that I posted. Much cleaner.

Any chance of a 100% crop? This is just crazy.

Here is a 100% crop. You say "jump"... we say "how high on the way up".

This is ISO 2000.

I'm having a sexual experience. Add a tiny bit of grain and Wow !!! Maybe no grain, I have not seen it moving.. probably can't see any noise at 100 % when it is moving.

Thanks, Jim!

For comparison, here's a 100% crop of a 2K scan of 5218 through Ultra Primes:

Hey Brook,

Are you sure the 35mm is cleaner? I think the 5218 2k scan is much better! :-)

Anyway, i love Jim's 2000ASA post. For some reason i like a lot the way the purple markings registered!

Remember that the 2K scan I posted is 1/4th the resolution of the cropped image Jim posted. My film was exposed at 320, his RED was exposed at 2,000.

To match the density of my picture, Jim's would have to be scaled down to 1/4 its original size.

Also consider the nature of my picture versus his. His has multiple colors, edges, etc. Mine is just gray.

If we compare just the relevant sections of the photos, this is what we're looking at:

Keep in mind that the RED section has now undergone at least two generations of JPEG compression. The film scan was pulled from a DPX file.

So considering the minimal [and thus not necessarily accurate] comparison we're looking at here... RED wins this round.

I'm locking this thread down to consolidate discussion to Jim's new comparison thread. (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3235)
