Just curious, how did the Red Team come up with the names for the prototype cameras. Boris and Natasha, Now Acapulco, whats up with that

Boris and Natasha were Russian spies on the old "Rocky and Bullwinkle" show. Rocky was a flying squirrel and Bullwinkle was a moose. I'm guessing someone (Jim?) was a fan.

Acapulco is a manner of singing without music, so I guess they don't have sound enabled on that particular prototype.

Acapulco is a resort city in Mexico and Acapella is a lyrical style without accompaniment.

If its any consolation I thought it was funny.

I like the "singing without music" part myself. I got a good chuckle out of that one.

IIRC, there is another prototype named 'Romeo' that was mentioned at or shortly after NAB. I'm sure they all have names and there may or may not be any specific design to the naming scheme...

..."singing without music" - hehe

Here is what I have on record since sometime last year:

"Frankie" (Prototype Shell w/ working sensor, Various Tests)
"Spike" (First Finished Prototype Body?)
"Boris" (Alpha - Crossing the Line, Various Tests)
"Natasha" (Alpha - Crossing the Line, Various Tests)
"Penny" (Beta - Wanted?)
"Bombay" (Beta - Wanted?)
"Acapulco" (Beta - Various Tests?)
"Mars" (Beta - NAB?)
"Romeo" (Beta - NAB?)
"Silk" (Beta - NAB?)

"Tex" (RED Spider) :)

I believe this makes sense since there was a reference to there being only a limited number of protoypes to go around.
If anyone has anymore data, perhaps we can add to this here and keep track of the developments with each camera.

Maybe they got mad with the cam and its trajectory matched that of the infamous Acapulco high divers ??

I first heard that joke in a Martin (Lawrence) episode, where he was telling an A&R guy that the girl he represented could not only sing to the music track, but also acapulco (instead of acapella)...lol

I suggest naming the next prototype "Barbarella"

How about "number6" for a prototype name?

Hey #6

Why did you pick #6 (From Blazing Saddles?). Your avatar where were you all dressed up like that when you had that picture taken?

Number 6 is a reference from the British T.V. series "The Prisoner".

I perfer the Blazing Saddles #6 reference. I have seen the prisoner a few times, good old egg chairs and bouncing bubbles but enjoy blazing saddles much more.

Hey #6

Why did you pick #6 (From Blazing Sattles?). Your avatar where were you all dressed up like that when you had that picture taken?

Naw, number 6 is from the old series "The Prisoner", which came after "Secret Agent" TV series, both starring one of my all time favorite actors, Patrick McGoohan. Not only was he a great actor, in my mind, but also a great human being, which I only recently found out by reading more about him in Wikipedia. The series was prophetic when it predicted that computers would more or less be in charge of our lives, and this was written mostly by McGoohan back in the late '50s and early '60s. My avatar is actually a photo of McGoohan as Number 6, the Prisoner (his name was never used nor revealed in any of the episodes) with some of my oun features from a high school photo, superimposed over his face and blended. Just happened to be taken at the same angle.

As far as being dressed up, I don't think I even oun a suit, but haven't looked in my closets for a number of years, so I may and have simply forgot. Generally I just wear some German/Swiss/Belgium/British/French/American army surplus (costs about .02 on the dollar) and when I take it off I throw it over a chair back to help keep it less wrinkled. Therefore, I have no need to look in closets.

If you ever get a chance to see or even obtain the boxed set of the Prisoner episodes, if you have my tastes you will forever be a fan. Even with differing tastes, I think you will find it brilliant.

Oh! almost forgot... his catch-phrase was "be seeing you!" and would circle his thumb and forefinger around his right eye, so that they would form the number six shape to the person he was taking his leave from.

I saw Blazing Saddles a long time ago, but don't remember that much about it. I wasn't aware there was a Number 6 in it.

I have been looking for a montage piece from the prisoner where they are singing "So hear the word of the LORD" in Greek chorus. Something about "the hip bones connected to a trombone" and all that crap. I want to rip it for a ring tone on my cell.

number6 number1, I wish someone of high intelligence would do a modern remake. :sarcasm:

Don't let Woody Allen near a Greek chorus again:huh:

Was that in the Western episode or was it one of the Leo Kern as No. 2 episodes? I remember it and the vision that comes to mind is Leo Kern with his short, stubby legs dancing around. Been too long and the memory has been overwritten too many times. Need holographic memory... not enough platters.
That would certainly be a unique ringtone:excl:

Hey Finner, I Wikied Blazing Saddles (not the movie I remember watching on network tv... may rent the unedited version). Should I just wait 'til I watch it or can you repeat what the number 6 dance means on the forum (remember, there are not just women who read these posts, but actual LADIES)

Blazing Saddles would never fly in todays hyper-sensitive politically corect world. The movie is very very funny and makes fun of almost every race and group out. Kind of like the simpsons but much more in your face. I will not give anything away as the #6 part is one of the funniest.

I had an A&R (in a fairly big german record company) once who didnīt know what the word "suite" meant in a musical context. I - having a Spinal Tap moment - told her itīs a large hotel room.
Never heard from her again.

Hah! Jochen, reminds me of a story told by a teacher of mine in high school English Lit class... It was about a court jester who was told by the king that if he made one more pun, then he would be taken out into the courtyard and hung by the neck. The jester promptly replied, "no noose is good news!" Sometimes, it's worth the price.

I was just thinking. There is an option to start a poll topic. There should be the option to make a "wiki" topic. That would be rediculously useful.

Me thinks the "make a 'wiki' topic" was a RED herring to sneak in the 'rediculously useful' comment. Of course, I could have red it all wrong.

edit: Was just wondering if RED will come with a skeleton key?
