You need to be much clearer with your question? Do you need to rip footage OFF DVD's? In which case MPEG Streamclip is the solution you are after, and it's free (assuming the DVD's aren't copy protected).

Woa woa. It's illegal to break the encryption on DVDs you know. Even if you burnt it yourself!

Uh... If you're looking to make DVDs for your reel, then there's lots of free options. You say you have FCP, so that implies you're running OSX. Easy enough, iDVD allows you to create DVDs and it's a free application included with all Mac systems. Also handles basic menu construction, etc.. You'll have DVD Studio Pro if you have Final Cut Studio and not just Final Cut Pro.
What Avid system are you using? Many Avid bundles have DVD authoring tools as well.
If you're looking to rip stuff off of DVDs to construct or edit a demo reel, then I'm totally confused. How did that video get onto a DVD in the first place? Can't you re-visit the original files?

If it is copyrighted then you'll need to use something like Mac the Ripper. If it's not, try something like MPEG Streamclip.

Please take right route first.
Ask the properties owners for the clips and rights first.
You already got paid , they own all of it now.
Please respect Intellectual properties rights because you are an artist not a pirate.
