View Full Version : Option Request :-)

I want to continue in the Red tradition by naming my Red and having it engraved on the side in much the way I saw that 'Boris' was at NAB. Could you guys at Red do that as an option? I'd of course be willing to pay extra for it. But I figure you guys have everything right there to do it, surely engraving one name per Red wouldn't exactly hold up the production line!
This sort of thing would aid greatly in theft deterring and in personalization.

man that is a lame lame site. let me count the ways.
first of all, it hurts my eyes just to read stuff over there, reduser.net is way better for reading and navigating.
second, its SO annoying to have to visit two forums now, but im sure it wont ever come to that.
why would anyone make a new forum for red, and one that is exactly the same as reduser? why would anyone want a new forum when redteam is already on reduser. why would anyone want to spread things thin, cause a disturbance like that site?
and all their topics and posts and "hot news items" are just copy and pastes from reduser, it just doesnt make any sense.

im just being honest.
just because you put a lot of work into something doesnt mean its a good idea
--------------------------------------------------------
doesnt matter if redcamcentral came before reduser.net or DVXUSER (pretty sure there was nothing before dvxuser, at least nothing where Jim and company were talking to us.
CLEARLY there is an official forum, where jim and team post to the users, why make something that will just spread things (thin) around and confuse people, make things more tedious to gather information. its just a pain in the ass (well, not yet, and i hope it stays that way.. who wants to go around checking every single forum....?
its just pointless and messes everything up.

Sorry to pull OT. Didn't think this warranted a new thread.
Yeah, the bizarro site is pretty....bizarre. It's a bit like wandering through the online equivalent of a ghost town. Which is what is to be expected with Jannard and crew posting here. Not quite sure why it was created, but I wanted to give Casey some sort of benefit of the doubt, like maybe he didn't know reduser.net was going to be created. I doubt that's the case though.
Just thought it was interesting.

I mean something's got to be done to offset the slightly Starship Troopers-ish appearance of this thing... can you imagine walking around an even slightly un-friendly area trying to do a little guerilla shooting with what certainly looks like a portable particle beam weapon?!

I'd be very surprised if the Red team has had time to "look into" this since Jim's post, but they're obviously interested. I can understand your concern though, Shawn. How many minutes left for you?:gun:
It would definately be more convenient to have it engraved before it ships, as opposed to having some trophy-makers shoot lasers at your $17,500 4k camera:)

I have named my production company and my first RED "VIDEO8Film". I have been preaching the fact that one day we will all be shooting video cameras to make motion pictures. For years people thought I was crazy, but I new one day technology would get to a point where this would become a reality.
I started experimenting making video look like film back in 1989 by trying to do linear pull-downs from 60 fields to 48 fields, on a convergence 90 using U-matic tape. Trust me very difficult and time consuming. After collage I met a guy in 93 and started doing video post pull downs using a modified DVE box. We wanted to develop a camera, and had the concepts of progressive scan long before it ever came out in camera form.
We had no R&D money to build this camera back in 1994, so we went to the big Japanese camera manufactures to pitch our idea of the camera to them. Every one of them turned us down flat. The common response especially from Sony was that, "the Japanese like the look of video so why would they want to make a video camera look like film?. Interesting how a few years and a person like George Lucas will change the mind of what the Japanese like.
I predicted years ago that these events would eventually happen, and you would be amazed how many people thought I was crazy. I am very happy an independently minded person like Jim is the one making my dream a reality.
My RED Camera will be called "VIDEO8Film" because, ladies and gentlemen, in a few short years film will be a distant memory. The only problem is we need to come up with a new word for "Filming" as a reference to a movie production shoot. I am tired of being on sets shooting f900 or vericam and everyone talking about filming. PEOPLE WE ARE NO LONGER FILMING ANYTHING USING THESE DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERAS. With regards to the RED, it is hardly even a camera, it is more like a super computer that happens to capture moving images.
I have a few ideas for a name change, but it will take some time to get into the vernacular.
Eg.

Shooting. It's the only way. Digital or celluloid. And Movie, not film. Put it all together: Shooting a Digital Movie. No ambiguity whatsoever.

Mine would be COD - camera obscura digitalis :shifty:
Daniel, I was trying to think of something with "camera obscura" in the name, but you came up with a better name than any of the things I thought of. So, I tip my hat to you, sir.

Shooting. It's the only way. Digital or celluloid. And Movie, not film. Put it all together: Shooting a Digital Movie. No ambiguity whatsoever.
Shooting == Guns.
Recording == Audio
Shooting (could) == photography.
Filming == Motion Picture Production
If I tell most people I know that I'm going to be shooting tommorow they'll think I'll be at a target range.
I don't even see how "shooting" means anything in relation to photography. What are you shooting? Nothing is being emitted or fired or projected... however you look at it. Shooting is as absurd of a term for the action of capturing images from a digital sensor as any other word. Even the word "Record" means essentially "to know by heart" or to "memorize". At best you could say that it means to write something down on paper. If you accept that a "record" is a disk which contains audio information then to say "record" audio means you're putting it onto a grooved disc. Which isn't the case with a DAT. Why should we have to come up with new words based on what sort of capture device is behind the lens? Why can't the meaning of the word we're already using simply evolve to include new technology?
Does this mean that a 2k Arri has to be called a "movie light" when used with a RED but a "film light" when the camera involved is shooting film? What if it's a mixed shoot?
I still use the word "Feathered" even though I've never used a bird's plumage in a dark room in my life.

Daedalus
But I've already got dibs on it.

The idea to personalize the REDs is great and I strongly support it. My name is actually "Boris" but I guess I am a bit late for that :), though pretty flattered that RED Boris a kind made history along with the other named ones. If RED decide to personalize mine would be called IMMANUEL.

I recieved my camera with a name already: "Spike"
I like that name, as it's gonna be a fiesty little bastard!
...by the way, the name was written on the packing slip, next to the camera body bar code....

Kant fan? :)
Now, if there was a RED prototype, called "Radoslav", that would really have been something, wouldn't it? :w00t:
Mine would be Евридика (Eurydice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euridice)).
And I won't look back.
