Thanks for posting that Alex, saw this at the PS demo a few months ago. I was very impressed.

That is pretty cool, they've certainly set a bar for Red to live up to. I thought the focus assist was a bit more like how I expected Red's to be.

They really have created a great looking and well thought out UI.

I really like the frame overlay feature, seems like that could save everyone a lot of time.

I don't expect Red's UI to be that deep, but it doesn't really need to be in many cases. SI-2K has touch screen which is more interactive for many things.

Features I liked:
- frame grabs and 50% overlay - for plate alignment and such.
- shutter speed down to two decimal points - for tricky shutter synch of CRT monitors, or flickering lights like HMI or florescent.

Well if Red's UI isn't that deep then SI certainly have one over Red for usability at this point. That said though, you can always put out new firmware to add such functions to the camera.

What you saw is the interface for the camera itself. There are ways to get ouput to 2 lcds if needed, but involves using the mini and a dual ouput graphics card. Unfortunately that option makes it tethered.
There is no evf at this time and limited output connections for on site viewing compared to Red (no SDI).

But Kudos for the excellent UI and the IP centric approach to things. And they work with Adobe products from the get go... (important for lots of Windows based Editors).

I don't know - I'd take quick, functional and intuitive UI over deep UI. For example, the SI color grading tools are nice but I personally would save complex color grades like this for post (more time, better monitor + viewing conditions, better tools). Grass Valley is doing similar on-set stuff with LUTHER, but I'm not sure if it's really needed or will catch on.

Anyway kudos to SI for some great stuff.
