I can get some awesome super 16mm cine lenses for fairly inexpensive..
What is the problem with using them?
Just being stuck to 2k recording?
Because as much as 4k redcode would be future proof.. for the time being.. i cant see myself using 4k output or maybe even 2k output..
especially if im doing music vids for tv/web.. or even feature films.. I would most likely be doing a 1080 out.. yes? no?

there's nothing wrong with super 16 mode ( 2K) ...
i plan to shoot doc's in S16 mode ...
i think the main difference for final 1080p will be DoF .. S16 will always have more DoF ....

perhaps LART test might show us difference/test between 35 & S16 modes taken down to 1080p ??

i'm thinkin that for a 1080p final ( viewing on HDTV) that you could mix S16 & 4k modes ... really won't know till somebody shoots a test and intercuts em ..

I certainly plan to use S16 glass on a lot of projects with the RED in the 2k windowed mode. 2K is fine for a lot of the work that I do.

A set of S16 T 1.3 primes has DOF characteristics that are shallow enough that you better have an AC that is good at pulling focus, not to mention that they are wonderful in low light situations.

Hi,

What exactly are the lenses, not all lenses claimed to be for S16 are awesome.

Remember that with 2K windowed you are using less than a third of the sensor. Over sampling in 4K and then down converting contributes greatly to a smooth noiseless picture. When you give up 2 thirds of the pixels, the quality of the picture MAY still be great, but that is yet to be seen. I would not count on 2k windowed mode until I see if for myself. I have a great 10-30 S16 Cooke T1.6 that I would love to use on the red for low light shots, but until I see how well using less that a third of the pixels looks I am not going to commit to it.

i think we can take a look at the SI 2k camera images and figure we should be in/about that ball park in S16 mode !

10-30 T1.6 cooke !! now there's a hunk of glass!!!

Hi,

I have the 20-60 T3.1 version for 35mm, beautiful glass, and not that heavy.

When shooting for HD release.

I'm coming more to the conclusion that I will shoot doc/etc. in 4K mode, then window in when I need tele. Similiar to the way I currently go to the doubler. This will also alleviate focus problems which occur. at longer lenses. This will also give me much more range on 35mm glass.
