I don't understand the anti-RED sentiments on a supposedly professional site. You'd think cinematographers would whole-heartedly embrace a camera that shoots beautiful 4K images at a fraction of the price of competing products.

It's mainly just two or three people that have issues with RED specifically, and then there is the much larger group that are not so fond of digital cinematography in general. But the site is not just made up of professional DP's -- like here, there are indie directors, students, screenwriters, post people, etc. It's a very mixed group.

Once more people starting seeing projects shot on the RED, you'll see fewer and fewer skeptical posts, other than some hardcore anti-digital types who'll never be convinced.

Remember that the acceptance of any digital camera is less enthusiastic in forums that are not specifically dedicated to video and digital. Whenever you have a mix of film and video people in one forum, the enthusiasm for digital technology and solutions gets muted because a certain percentage simply don't shoot digitally. It's not a matter of how technically good the 4K image from the RED camera is, or how cheap the camera is. Some love film, even Super-8 and 16mm, and if they can afford to shoot film, there is less incentive to get excited about new digital camera technology.

I have to agree with David - there are a few "usual suspects" who indeed have a negative bias. I still donīt exactly understand their motivation to frequent the red forum, it seems like some sort of crusade.

Both sites have, besides their positive merits, typical "weaknesses".

David, let me add - it is important to understand, that for many people the digital age in cinematography is a -bad- trend. I know, first hand, as partner, boss or worker, several elder DPs who really do a excellent job - some of them ince 4 or 5 decades.

Now for some of them, it is pretty hard to understand why things, and especially proven cameras and workflows now begin to change. They see many new problems and donīt understand the benefits. They know well enough how to create fine cinematography with classic 35mm but never have been to a D.I. - and donīt know what they could add to their artistic work.
