I went to the APPLE FCS2 show in Dallas last night expecting
to see the RED Camera and the Peter Jackson short.
We were ripped off. The show was OK as 3
frenzied Apple reps rushed through FCS2 at a frenzied
pace like they could not wait to get out of the presentation.
No questions were taken and the lead guy had one slide
about RED. I guess they did not want to piss off
the video vendors at the show who still need to sell other
cameras from other vendors. I talked with one vendor I knew
about RED and he said since he cannot sell it he really
is not educated about it and really did not care.
There were many disappointed RED fans who thought for
sure we would at least see the PJ short. I think many in
attendance were assuming we would since they had been
showing it at the other Apple shows.

That's a bummer.
I suspect that was because TED, who does the RED presentations at all Apple shows was out of the country. I don't know for sure, but I think it's pretty logical - TED personally transports the PJ media, etc.

That is a bummer. I guess RED cannot have the media
flying around without a proper guardian. I would not have
attended if I knew that to be the case. And I doubt
RED would have made any announcement about that
because of the Apple relationship. I already have FCS2
and know that it is the greatest thing since......

I saw Apple and Red when they came to Miami. You would think that the Apple guys wouldn't have had to rush things, because they had extra time, due to Red being a no show. I guess one can't complain, because the show was free. I'll tell you honestly that Red 2k is better than film. You'll just have to wait till these guys, that are filmiming now with Red prototypes, get their films in theaters (that have digital porjecters.)

Ted was in Sydney, Australia for SMPTE. I'm sure there will be another chance for you to check the footage out.

I will probably have my RED before I ever see the PJ footage.

Hey Jeff,
By the time the RED's start shipping I hope RED will
be sending some sales info along with the camera.
Hopefully that will include a Blu-Ray disc with the
PJ short and some other cool stuff that may not
have shown yet.

I am probably asking too much, but it would be cool, when the next time Red does a presentation at a convention, if Red would have a 1080p LCD screen displaying the PJ short from a Blu-ray disc. I have seen that the Red footage looks good in 2K, but no one has seen what Red footage looks like after Blu-ray adds compression artifacts. I want to see how much better the theater experience will over the home theater 1080p/Blu-ray experience.

Yes, I might add - after Apple gets it together and updates
DVD SP, this is the one area that always lags behind.
