Sorry guys.. i decided to start a whole new thread on this just so everyone is informed!..
on my way home I was listening to the radio and a LOW JACK commercial came on.. I have low jack for my car but what I never knew was that low jack can be installed in laptop computers... this leads me to believe that it could also be installed in a RED ONE body... IF anyone at read is reading this.. maybe you guys can get in contacts with low jack and have this be an installed option for us? or maybe there would be a way of having this put in place before the camera is sealed up... it can be done.. for my car i think i paid 800 bucks upfront. the low jack would simply be charged with the batteries.

lojack for cars is software based..so unfortunately, it isn't some small planted chip for location tracking.

Lots of problems with LoJack... One of the biggest follies is that it becomes useless as soon as the item being tracked passes out of the service area for supporting wireless networks. It woks on cars in bigger city or urban areas, when the theft is noticed right away and the vehicle can be tracked before it goes out of a service area. So it could be really useful or really worthless depending on your location.

Laptop LoJack is a complete joke. Too easily noticed and disabled.

Lowjack for Laptops (http://www.lojackforlaptops.com/) is just software and a subscription service. Won't work for a RED. It only can track when it is on a network with access to the internet. RED is not a network device (at this time). Would you really want to get a RED virus on your camera?

25 years of shooting and never had a camera stolen...but if it was the insurance would have covered it.

Insurance and a safe!! get one that goes between the joists flush with the floor or bolt it from the back to the back of a closet wall.

Had my car stolen an few years ago and caught the guy doing it. I was dialing the cell phone calling 911 as he left the parking lot in my car. Within four minutes, five Police cars responded to the call, including the watch commander and they scoured the neighborhood for my vehicle. Less than 90 minutes later, the unrecognizable hulk of my car was discovered one and a half blocks away from where it was stolen. I asked the officers if I'd had better luck recovering the car if I'd had LoJack. Everyone of them insisted that even under my circumstances, it would have taken longer to get the results back from the LoJack search than it did just waiting for the thieves to abandon the car. Insurance. The only LoJack you need.

Yikes... sorry guys.. I heard it on the radio and flipped my sidekick open. And made the post... didn't really research... the reason I like tracking idea is because.. While insurance is fine and I will have it.. The potential thought of someone snaking my camera freaks me out.. Because I will not be able to replace it in any reasonable time frame... oh well sorry again.. U can delete this one

I like the gun idea. I have a .22 and a Glock 9mm semi-automatic, it can go with me to the shoots just in case. ;) haha, then I'll double as not just a camera tech but also on-set security.
