Very fast - the new Lexar 300x 8 gig, Jim said will work. Red will list ones that should work and sell their own brand guaranteed to. You can search the forum for this thread.

I think flameop's refering to 2k since it ought to be lower than that required for 4k.
But the lexar's do indeed offer the best of both worlds.

For 2K... I'd assume roughly 1/4-1/3 the data rate. That said, I'd put the money down for fast cards to be 100% sure.

Cineform Raw 2k out of the SI is 10-12MBs. Probably a good place to start in your planning.

Buy cards that can handle the full bandwith.

RED has stated that they will be offering their own brand of CF cards.

Warp speed huh?
Better hurry, Lexar has recently announced they are closing in on ludicrous speed. :)

Not to mention the price which I am confident will be attractive as well. I am holding off on any CF purchases for my slr until these become available.

Does this mean that we should buy the Compact Flash module and not the 1.8" SATA module? Red seems to be really championing CF these days whereas before they seemed to favour SATA. I'm confused.

"The more we look at ExpressCard's performance and standalone format (not SATA), along with it's pricing... the less we like it. It is on the chopping block waiting for me to say "Pull!".
Jim"
not sure if much was changed since this post in may. The way i look at it.. I would want to get whatever is available. So far, with the CF testing and working in the field.. looks like THE flash choice upon the cam's release. By the time you get yours, more option might be available for you to choose from. At that point it becomes, how much GB/performance per dollar value you can get. I wonder if overcranking requires faster data transfer speeds?

I'd say yes and yes. Oh and thanks for the quote. Express card seems to be the least attractive at the moment.
No doubt about it. CF = future.

It's not an either or proposition is it? Flash Module replaces RAW port not the SATA plug.
Official confirmation?

The "SATA Plug" you're mistaking his quote for is on the back of the body - it's an eSATA-based LEMO which interfaces with the RED DRIVE and RED RAM. The SATA module fits right where the RAW port and other flash modules go... except it allows for use of 1.8" SATA-based flash media drives.
All AFAIK.

Any idea when 16GB or (Wishfully thinking) you might have 32GB CF cards Jim?

Couldn't find another thread on this, though it may well have been brought up, but if, say, one gets a RED camera this coming year with the CF option, and it turns out that 5 years down the line for whatever reason, everybody's using SATA, will it be possible to send the camera back to RED, plunk down a couple of thousand dollars or so, and have the CF module replaced with the SATA module?
(I would assume that this is the case, if one is to take the stance of rendering obsolescence obsolete, but I can't recall anyone bringing this up before).

The CF module is user-replacable. Only the RAW port requires factory installation.

Is that correct? Since the CF module goes in the same place on the side of the camera that the RAW port does, I would assume that swapping from any module there to any other is a back to factory job. Still perfectly doable none the less.

Sorry for double posting as I've just made this post in another thread.
Will the CF module remain with only one CF card slot or are they looking into
putting another slot into it? I remember people talking about this, and I was
just wondering how this is turning out to be.
