Dear REDUSERs,
ever since I joined dvxuser forum, I was wondering what could I do to payback, to contribute with with my little something, for a start, to these two knowledge bases and I'm bringing you my first Widget.
With kind permissions from Jim Jannard and Jarred Land, I'm posting this in hope it will help to further evangelize RED project and even more spread the word about RED camera and RED Team's work all together.
I'll see what I can do in order to make this widget viable for common PC users, since it's been made using Apple's Dashcode and it's for Mac OS X 10.4 and more recent updates.
Actually, I hope this to be only the first of my contributions, in particular if the rest of you approve it downloading the widget and feed back your impressions about it.
Here's a link http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=dr_nesa&templatefn=FileSharing23.html&xmlfn=TKDocument.23.xml&sitefn=RootSite.xml&aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en to a Public folder at my idisc where you can choose from .dmg and .zip file to download.
Thank you all very much and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did making it :).

Description:
REDcountdown widget allows you to follow visually the time as it runs towards meeting the NAB announcements.
Operation:
It is Dashboard type of widget, so it works only on Mac OS X 10.4 and newer.
Installation:
Download the widget file.
Decompress the .dmg or .zip file.
Double-click the widget icon. You'll get a window asking if you'd like to install the widget. Click on the 'Install' button.
That's it. Enjoy!
Use:
When you have the widget running, a mouse-over will show an "i" button.
Clicking on it will flip the widget.
On the back side there's a done button to close this view when suitable.
Click on the 'Done' button.
The widget will flip back and show the countdown status.
Screenshots:
I put them right next to widget compressed files and they can be previewed without the need for downloading. If their weight is not to much, they could be shown in the next message of this thread.

Thank You people.
This acceptance is flattering. I feel proud for accomplishing rather simple gadget in practically no time, starting from template, for it was the first one coming outta my owen, the same day I started playing with Dashcode, who everyone I faced with characterized of good taste and harvested general approval.
There have been sixty something visits to widget downloading site and over a hundred people got attracted to this thread. I will be waiting for the counter to meet the deadline with the same excitement as if I was a holder of RED reservations.
Possibly my RED will have other model name than ONE, but I trully believe that day will come and in the mean time I hope to fill in with my creative thinking and art those little gaps left behind.
Not everybody gets involved in sensor development or protocol writing or deep coding work. Surely there's a lot of work to be done where many of us, fans and wanna-be-RED-owners, could help. Thatīs my drive!
Thank you for paying attention.

Thanks for the Widget!
I can't wait to try it out.
I downloaded REDcountdown.dmg and when I tried to open it I got a dialog box that says: "Enter password to access files on REDcountdown.dmg."
Is the zip version the same thing? It's much smaller in dl size so i wasn't sure about it but I'll try that to see if it works.

84 days days still left on the count-down as of this post. Good chance Leopard will ship in time for NAB, so you may get to use the widget for a day or two. ;) Then again, NAB could be the official coming-out party for Leopard along with a spec-bump on the Macbook and Macbook Pro lines and hopefully 8-core Mac Pro systems, new Pro app versions, etc... I think NAB is going to be big for Apple this year. They used MacWorld to solely promote the iPhone.

I changed encripted .dmg file for compressed .dmg (598 KB) and .zip (552 KB) is exactly the same thing.

Well, I most sincerely hope I will bake some more catchy widgets by then as I get to know Dashcode, and issuing for other platforms the same ones I make for Macintosh. There're Konfabulator/Yahoo!, internet compliable, Dashboard and still haven't made it clear if stand alone widget is fourth format or equal to some of before metioned three. They are not compatible among them. I just started, and of course, aiming high, with RED :).

Thanks for sharing this! I was hoping to get a new computer and if NAB turns to reveal such candies from apple maker, RED could get a nice bite to the market leaning on such a powerful NLE based platform. That is going to be a real cracker if, as usual, Apple only updates the performance and leaves the price tag of the machine untouched! 4x bump-up over the actual one!. RED users will benefit largely from such a deal! Even more if Apple match the bus outlets planned for RED, with this renewed Pro line, out from the box I mean.

Well,
that's exactly what I was expecting to ignite :). My work started here http://developer.apple.com/MacOSX/dashboard.html I'm registered as developer so I could download Dashcode v. 0.9 beta which will become eventually part of OS X Leopard.
From then on, a flood of widgets could be expected. I took these couple of months lead to try and play with it and hopefuly learn a lot about it. If more people get involved, I guess feedback will continue raising the bar and our results will be ever better on the benefit of everyone.

Back to our widget business:
What I just try on my Mac, is to have the widget off the Dashboard, floating over the desktop. It could be called back where it was dragged from when not needed, no problem at all.
Explanation is really straight forward at the bottom of this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashboard_(software) concerning Widgets on the Desktop, involving Terminal and command line:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES There's another line to make it work,
killall Dock and from then on, you can easily drag'n'drop back and forth whatever widget you want.
Give it a quick look, try it and have fun with the widget in your sight!
Funny enough, even growing old, sometimes we're thrilled with time pass and would even like to make it go quicker ;)!
I WANT MY RED :)!!! I'll earn it in midnight oil, The Time Will Come...!

Upon expiring, this widget forms a waiting list for REDTWO ;) and freezes your savings for The Day :) beeps Jobs and Jannard upon your interest and SMS Jarred the total number of potential users for new Forum and WorldNet of collaborators.
No kidding!
