I know this has been brought up time and time again,

Im just wondering if there will ever be a fix for the black hole effect that happens on clipped highlights, it would really be helpful not to have to worry about motion tracking it to remove it in post.

It just seems like the Red team can work up a fix as you have already done amazing things over and over to Red post and builds.

Thanks.

I asked Ted Schilowitz directly last week- That was his answer. I rejoiced.

One would expect this to be extremely easy. I wonder what is the hold up (aside from massive amounts of R&D for everything else coming out).

You know how it goes... 4k picture- crazy wavelet compression... Lots and lots of things on their list...
At first it was a simple matter of the sensor simple turning itself off to protect itself (something to that point) giving us a black sun. Now it is purple- no idea why.
Soon it will be a thing of the past. It is an easy fix in post, but as I mentioned to Ted, you get producers freaking out on set.

I just wonder how it could be purple and not white, fully clipped. Its just one of those things that really puzzle the crap out of you, you know? Why black? Why purple?

I think black was simply nothing being recorded. Purple- no idea- very puzzling indeed.
