Hi guys,
Well like a lot of you I'm waiting for a Scarlet, but wanted to get working on some projects, so a little while back I went ahead and bought a Canon T1i. At that point I did not have an SLR (although I'm not new to SLR cameras, I used to have a 40D).
The Image quality of the T1i is overall quite good, especially with a kit lens...

All three of those were with the "stock" 18-55mm IS lens. It is surprisingly sharp for being a "low-cost" lens.
One of the selling points (and reason when I was looking at getting an SLR) , is that it shoots HD video. While this is technically true, the main caveat is that when shooting at full 1080p its bound to a very limited (in usability terms) 20 FPS... smh...
Here is a video shot at 20FPS in 1080P: http://www.vimeo.com/5457078
Here is a video shot at 30FPS in 720P: http://www.vimeo.com/5475781
I believe the camera has the processing power to record 4 extra fps in 1080p, however I don't think canon will do that as it could detract from sells of its full frame older brother the 5d mk II which captures 1080P @ 30fps...
Overall however, I must say I am very pleased for what it does (also considering the price). It takes very good pictures at higher ISOs, and manages to stuff 15.1 Megapixels on a APS-C sensor without becoming too noisy. The screen is the same from the 50D, and 5D which is such a high resolution that you can actually use it to focus very effectively.
In conclusion if your like me, and in the market for a "interim solution" until the scarlet comes out (or simply want a lighter SLR to take around if you want to keep the scarlet at home). Give the T1i a look. It shoots great 720P video, and has the ability to shoot 1080p (hopefully Canon out of the good graces of their heart will release a firmware update :001_rolleyes:), and is a GREAT SLR to boot.
To me getting a high quality SLR, with HD video capture (with the ability to interchange the lens, meaning you can attach some L series prime lenses and have some really nice glass) all for around $800 with the kit lens is a great deal!
At least till the scarlet comes out...
Hope that helps anyone looking at it! and feel free to ask any questions you may have!
