I, sometimes, hang out at SportsShooter.com and have seen several mentions of RED One on their message boards in recent months. Most of it seems to center around fear on the part of "Sports Shooters" who think the sidelines of major-league (or minor league for that matter...) sporting events will be filled with RED One operators capable of producing similar resolution as their DSLRs only @60fps.

Their latest thread talks about Jim selling Oakley.

Here's the most-recent thread concerning RED One (http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=25728).

Thank you Terry, I am headed there now. I shoot alot of sports and if I get my RED in time there will be some great footage of Darren McFadden (some 720p@120fps-- if enabled-- otherwise hello Shake :-) ) in my future!

Cheers--- Andrew

I was just talking with the chief engineer of the Phillies and he is really exicited about my Red coming to the games. Red and sports is a match made
in heaven.

It's actually rather funny to read their responses. They just don't seem to get it. They see it as a DSLR replacement and worry about the workflow in still image processing, etc.

They are full of speculation and, apparently, don't know much about it. They make assumptions and take each other's assumptions as fact. Since it is a closed board, you can't just pop in and set 'em straight. What a hoot!

Only time will tell.
For example - I am shooting some spots tomorrow
and we are using an HVX. They are only 4:3 SD
spots but the client asked me about pulling
stills from the video for print pieces.
I said the effective resolution of the HVX
especially since we are shooting SD is not
good enough for print. So I am bringing the Nikon
D200 to capture still images for print.

Of course you ask why not shoot 1080p and down convert?
Because I only want these to be SD and will re-shoot
with the RED when they want to go HD!!
Besides even the 1080 resolution of the HVX is not that great.
