I just started shooting today at the beach, Venice, Santa Monica, etc. My first real outdoor use.

In every single location, random people are heard walking by saying "The RED, The RED" with excitement.
It was so cool to see so many people coming up and starting conversations and trading contact info.

Heh, well being such a sleek camera I'm not surprised! Can't wait to rent one out and take it on a run around the city... xD

In February 2008 I stopped a whole production company just by walking across the yard with a RED in my hands.

Won every popularity contest that year.

Agree, I can walk around naked with less attention then with RED ONE in my hand. Ad-agency people speak of "The RED" with more enthusiasm then any other equipment in history.

But if you really want you can be EVEN COOLER...

"From now until September 30th, trade-in a professional 1/2" or 2/3" full-size tape or disc-based camera or a RED camera, and trade up to the AJ-HPX3700 for the astonishing price of $29,950." - Panasonic's Website

I'm thinking that has to be some sort of a joke. So let me get this straight, you trade in your 4K camera that looks better than film, and you get a lousy 1080p camera with 2/3" chips for twice the price of a RED body *that you just gave away*? This is some sort of a joke right? Ok seriously if this is the best the "competition" can offer, man, I really feel sorry for them :( Especially in this economy.

I'll tell you guys what... if any of you have a luxury car, let's say a Ferrari or Lambo, no reason to think small here, I will let you trade it up for my Toyota Celica if you just throw in $15,000 additionally. What do you think? ;)

Oh and I would tend to agree that $29,500 is indeed an "astonishing price" -- just not in the way they think. It's astonishing a camera that can only shoot 1080p, which is pretty pathetic actually, would cost that much money.

Hey, you're ruining my deal; I offered my bicycle for a porsche plus some thousands of euros; I wonder why noone reacted yet. And as for the Red in the streets; I've mostly had people walking by uncomfortably close

They are naked. That's why it's uncomfortably close.

In Seattle we have had almost no reaction at all. Maybe one time I've heard "Red!" exclaimed. Mostly they don't pay much attention to smaller indie crews.

I now have to wear a diaper in public, after that one incident...

I was at Universal City Walk and there was a guy there with a shoulder-mounted RED, and, well, let's just say I got excited. So after that incident, Depends has been my friend.

haha, j/k. I've still only seen maybe 3 REDs in person in my life so far, one was actually just up in Portland at a rental place, it was the closest I had seen it. I did drool a bit. lol

I was on a shoot in Little Italy, NYC earlier this year, San Gennaro festival, and folks were circling me and my RED, talking pictures and speaking German, French, etc. Only word I understood was RED.

I met the director, Abel Ferrara, in a restaurant. I started to talk about the camera, pulled it out of a bag and set it on the table, and booted it up. He got excited, grabbed the cam and ran into the next room with it to show it off to various celebrities!

I'm not uncomfortable around naked people; they should just stear clear of my Red
