So Im curious. Could one manufacture an optical viewfinder for the camera? Now I know that this would mean a need for a mechanical shutter, but doesn't the Arri D-21 and Genesis have optical viewfinders? Im just curious to understand why the decision was made to ditch optical viewfinders and go digital? Price? Simplicity?

It seems to me that having a sensor to capture the image combined with a mechanical gate could be one of the best combination's of both worlds or film and digital. The D-21 has an amazing image quality and I find it to be an amazing hybrid.

Could this work? What would you have to do to make it work and what would be some of the pros and cons.

i think there was a discussion on that topic and one of the reasons was the price point of the red one compared to the arri d20 / d21.

Genesis has a digital (a very pure one) viewfinder.

Mechanical shutters are only on D21 and Viper... the second has electronic viewfinder... P+S I thing has an optical in line with lens for 2/3 that works with a 50% prism... losing a lot of light... D21 has a spinning mirror shutter, thats why is capable of doing both with no loss.
