This whole professional theft of camera gear seems to be escalating - or is it just better reporting. Would love it if just some of these thieves got caught and properly punished!

Maybe they just stole from the rich to give to the poor!

Sorry to hear this Eric. Let's hope they catch the bums.
Quick question. Don't Red cameras record the camera's identity in metadata or have I misunderstood the way things work?

I hear a small indie film without major studio funding recently received some cameras and lenses from a dashing, anonymous donor. Sheriff's deputies are still searching the forest for the miscreants.

Frank, just relaying a news item I found. I'm not connected with the production, and not sure if they were film or digital cameras.

I've got a friend whose doing Robin Hood right now, I believe its film cameras, maybe wrong, haven't bothered to ask her but she didn't seem to pick up on this news weirdly enough O.o
I think the metadata does record some of the camera's identity, there was some talk of a specific code or something thats within the camera that relates to that body and that body only, not sure if I heard right either...

The only way these things keep happening on a studio lot is because security is in on it. Also this is the reason I never leave my camera alone in a stage. I don't care how well guarded it is. Unless I'm right there with the camera, there's a chance of it getting stolen.

I remember a BBC engineer who 'took home' a small piece of kit every day until he had enough pieces of kit to assemble his own online editing and duplication facility at home. Made quite a bundle before he was caught.

What do you do when you need to pee?
