More in line with the many timelapse questions - will Red have the capability of capturing a single frame via an external trigger? I have several intervalometers and timelapse/motion control units for my 35mm cameras and digital still units that I feel would work great, but all are external trigger dependant.

If you see Ander's connector sticky you will see the b4 lens connector:

L) B4 Lens connector
Hirose Part HR10A-10P-12P
1. Return switch
2. Record "VTR Start/Stop"
3. Ground
4. AT-MA
5. ID-CO
6. Regulated 12v
7. IP-B
8. AT-RE
9. EXT-ANS
10. Zoom position feedback
11. nc
12. nc

I assume its as simple as making a cable with a VTR start/stop button, box to trigger Red for 1fps. We have made up units like this to trigger Varicams and F900R's through the lens cable port.

The 12v accessory connectors have GPI and GPO.

Yes, Rocketeer, that does look promissing.

Brook, the GPI and GPO seem to be output. Am I mistaken?

Cheers

I would guess GPI/GPO stand for General Purpose Input/General Purpose Output.

AFAIK, it can serve as an input trigger.

Yes, one in and one out per connector. Use as a trigger to the Timelapse menu and tally back.

That sounds great. So a 5 volt to 12 volt signal/trigger would be fine?

On a similar fashion, I will be using 2-3 cameras to shoot some background plates and need to synchronise them. Is it just a matter of using the same switch to trigger them from the accessorie connector? Also does the camera start at the exact same time whenever the switch is pressed? Id guess it does since its just electronics but Id like to know for sure.

If you're using them for motion control you will have problems. Per a post from Stuart awhile back the port is limited to around 6 frames per second before it starts choking. It should work ok for time lapse though.

I'm actually interested to know whether the interval between pressing the button and the camera starting is always the same.

I know it was a while back but did you ever get an answer to this question?

I have an external timelapse trigger for my still cameras and I would love to connect it to my Red but I'm not sure how to make the connection to the GPI

Anyone able to help...

thanks
