In other words.. i have one camera.. it will be fully decked out
(minus cine lenses at first).. what can i expect will be an average rental rate for my camera?

An Independent owner + Operator of HVX-200 should be able to answer this question better. then figure out a range between HVX and F23.
Not all HVX users can afford RED rental at same time Not all HVX user like it's quality. Vice versa is true for F23 with different reasons.

Eight dollars and forty-seven cents a day is not unrealistic. Maybe even forty-eight cents if theres a lot of work in town.

Let me also repeat ..huh..? I thought the rates being asked about are for renting out RED...

We want to be realistic. If someone has budget of 50K, they will be renting HVX, if budget is huge, they are still skeptical about RED initially, they don't want to take risk, so they go for priven Film. Remember the post from cinemtography.com, a guy was still mentioning to others that RED is myth, he is encuraging other fellow members of the forum to educate the "innocent filmmakers" about RED helusinations.
We feel sorry about such fellows, of course they feel the same way.
By the time RED is well established, we already have 3000 units in the market and you know the rental price.

Rental rates are usually based upon the acquisition cost but do vary from market to market. The frequency of required service and anticipated deprecation influence the price, but for camera's (at least in the LA market) the range is typically 3 - 5% of the retail value per day. Weeks are typically 2x or 3x the day rate. Monthly and longer are nearly always negotiable.
If you are serious about renting out your camera, and not hiring out as an owner/operator, you might want to look into hooking up with a rental house. Its a lot of overhead (insurance, contracts, etc) for someone with only one camera to handle. The lack of backup equipment is also going to be a big issue for any serious project. If you can't supply a replacement any time of day or night if a camera goes down isn't going to make you as attractive as a real rental house.

are you asking for rental rates ( period) or more a rental rate with you as DP/operator ?
IMO some of this depends on your current clients .. if your clients now pay 500 - 750 day ( DP & HVX camera) i don't think they are going to go for 1500 day ( DP & RED) .... so one would charge more for their RED but not price them out of their clients price range ... i'm not so sure a RED will up a DP from 700 day to 1500 day ???
guessing the rental market ?? 500-700 day for body then add on $$ accessories ??
depending on location .... some area's rate might be higher/lower then others ...
also your package might attract lower budget renters ?? most higher budget renters stick to cine lens & want a full selections/options of accessories ..
some prefer X matt box, Y follow focus with Z sticks and somebody else wants each of those different ... IMO a individual cannot compete with a full service rental house so you may not be able to get the prices they charge ..
" If someone has budget of 50K, they will be renting HVX"
IMO if somebody has a 50k budget and you are a Producer - you go for the RED and settle for a HVX ... you make RED owners a offer that fits your budget - you always ask for MORE ....

yah im sorry.. im not asking about rates.. i already have my rates figured out..
Im talking about frequency... how frequent can i expect to get my camera used (when im not using it as a dp/operator).. ill still go with the camera as a (tech).. but yah.. main question is frequency

Rates are much easier to estimate, frequency would require more than a bit of speculation. Its really about how well connected you are, this is much more important than what you are offering to rent, even in the case of the RED. Those that can afford to rent (and have insurance, etc) are just as concerned about support as they are rates.
Frankly, if you don't already have an idea who you are going to rent to (and I mean actual names, not just a description of the type of person/production company) I would suggest that you should be very conservative in terms of the business model and how much you expect from rental income. So, plan on and budget for zero rentals, but if you can hook up with a rental house, that number might just increase a bit.

Following are rates from Midtown video, our local rental house here in South Florida.
RED could be considered to have quality of (beyond really) the F900 (rent rate $1250) with the purchase price more like that of the PDW-F350 (rent rate $750)
My plan with RED#206 would be to rent close to the F900 rate for the first couple of months while there is a severe shortage of RED, with rate gradually moving down toward the $750.
I haven't really decided on my lens package yet but presume that rate includes say a RED zoom, other lenses optional/more.
With that said, the purchase price of the red and the relative robustness of an all electronic box (i.e. no tape deck) menas that I/we can afford to make whatever deal makes sense based on my interest in the project, multi-day and longer rentals, and the actual demand at the time.
Further, as Gibby said it can be a headache for a single camera owner to deal with the insurance and logistical issues, so over the next few weeks I will be talking with my friends at Midtown and Cinevideotech to make RED #206 available through them, and I am happy to work with West Coast outfits as well. Anything I can do to offset the initial investment as quickly as possible is just a bonus for me as I am not a constant shooter - (main business is making underwater housings and I tend to shoot somewhere between 25 to 50 days per year, although RED has gotten me excited about shooting again so expect that number to go up.)
So now how much should I charge for the underwater housing rental?
Sony HDW-F900 x $1,250.00 Batteries, Power, Charger, HD 17x lens
Panasonic AJHDX900 $950.00 Batteries, Power, Charger, HD 17x lens
Sony PDW-F350 $750.00 Batteries, Power, Charger, HD 20x6.4 lens, AND Free day of PDW-F70 Deck Rental
HD Minis
Canon XLH1 HDV HDV 1080: 24f, 30f, 60i $450.00 Batteries, Charger
AG-HVX200 DVCPROHD, 1080 & 720 $500.00 Batteries, Power, Charger, FS-100 HD
Sony HVR-Z1U HDV 1080i $325.00B

Okay nine dollars a day. But you'd need to throw in a crane and some hookers.

Wow, that's a little much.
Keep in mind that you'll be doing a lot of driving to LA... most of the work starts in Santa Monica and goes on up.
