I was looking at red's sensor comparison chart on their website and noticed that 4.5K res. was also illustrated. Is Red One capable of recording at this resolution?

Jim mentioned some time ago that it would be possible in a 2.35:1 ratio to shoot 4.5k across. I would guess it will show up as a surprise in one of the next few builds.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Jim and the Red Team may prove me wrong, but I do not think this is a high priority item. One reason might be that most people shooting 'scope or other wide formats typically use anamorphic glass so they actually use a "center cut" of the sensor anyway.

Perhaps the Epic will fulfill one connotation of its moniker and offer a recording option for spherical lenses with more pixels horizontally. Personally, I would love to take advantage of the even field illumination of the RPPs to shoot super clean wide aspect spherically, rather than anamorph.

FWIW many DPs I have talked with about this, would rather shoot anamorphic glass because they cherish the unique look of the flares and other "artifacts" - hard to argue with that, its a sexy look that can add flavor to a story.

Actually, for shooting scope I would rather have more pixels vertically preserving the look around horizontally on the R1.
